Weird Peugeot Allen key size?

Hi, I am going to reattempt to change my brake discs this weekend on an N reg Peugeot 406 diesel. I Did the pads a couple of weeks ago but had to give up on the discs as I couldn't remove one of the bolts!
The name of it escapes me, but it is something like a caliper restraining bolt, and It stops the caliper from flipping up.
I vaguely remeber when I did it on another Peugeot that it was an Imperial size, but although I had metric and imperial I couldn't get a snug fit. I may have had a key missing though, and it may have been a half size?

Anyway, this is a long shot, but does anybody know what size allen key this bolt takes, you know, just off the top of your head?

Many thanks

    is it a torx bit
  • It could be, I'm fairly confident it isn't though. It's behind the caliper, so I cant actually see it. That may be a good point though, I'll try some Torx in it!
  • put a mirror behind it or take a picture
  • It will be a 7mm allen key bolt, the Fords used to use the same size key.

When you buy a normal pack of keys it'll have a 6mm and 8mm but rarely the 7mm. They can be a pain to find.

And usually come with an extension bar on it if you buy the correct one.

If you're doing a bit of work yourself a Haynes manual will save you hours and hours.....I speak as a time served maintenance fitter - it's always better to have drawings and a correct method to work to, and the right tools ready before you go, it's always a quicker and better job.;)

  • Thanks Gordon861, that is exactly the case, there was no 7mm! But as it was a decent allen key set, I thought that surely they wouldn't miss a size out if it was ever needed.
And thanks also Ailuro2, I have a Haynes manual but I'm sure that it doesn't state the allen key size. I'm going to feel a right muppet if it does! :rotfl:
