Outrageous Abbey overdraft fees

I've not been able to manage my Abbey accounts (E Saver and current) as I lost my card. It took them 14 DAYS to get me a new card, longer for all the new passwords etc to arrive. When I got my new card and tried to go online again, guess what, they've changed all the log in number details too, so I've had to wait another 5 days for a online password and still don't have the online security number. Bloody ridiculous. Who do these systems help ? Not the customer.

In the meantime I've gone over drawn by 90 quid and they've hit me with an 'instant overdraft request fee' for £35 and an unauthorised overdraft 'monthly fee' for £25 plus interest (What!) of 2 quid.

To cap it all I've just tried to call them, after five calls their stupid automated system won't let me talk to anyone, line keeps going dead.

AAAAAAARGHH!!!

I need to change my bank asap. But first want to claim back these latest charges,

1 Are they excessive ? I thought most banks had cut these kind of fees to £12 or something.

2 Have people had success getting Abbey to rescind these charges?

thanks and sorry about the rant...

I do understand your rant and I will try and answer a few questions but I will say some things you may not like so be prepared to hear some things you do not agree with but come back to me on them.
I have got some questions as well.
so you lost your card so why has it caused the issue with online banking? (I don't bank with Abbey so will need an explanation on this one).
Could you not have checked the balance at your local Abbey branch or on a saturday? Did you not know when payments were going out of your account?

The £12 fees are for credit cards and you can reclaim. I would write to abbey explaining all the issues and see if they will waive them without going down the reclaim route.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

This username is no longer active.
  • they have waived one fee and I appealed against the second
  • Charges are really out of control !. I got charged 89 the once and called and I got it all refunded....... ref to other persons message, I tried a second time, but couldn't, they only do a charge refund every 12 months.......
So give them a call and get it refunded.... especially for £2.00 and the trouble.. you'll get it back.
