You can grow carrots in deep pots, or you can get varieties of carrots that are smaller than usual which will grow in pots, such as:
Parmex - small round carrots
Chantenay - stump rooted carrots

Last year I grew Carrots, Spring onoins, Radishes, Dwalf beans, Tomatoes, lettuce and beetroot all in standard patio containers. It was really a fun exercise for my kids to learn where food comes from and how things grow but it was GREAT fun! We loved it so much we will be doing it again this year... will be trying more salad leaves this year, possibly chilli's and salad potatoes in an old dog food container! I'm no gardener and we honestly didn't spend much time on it but we got a really good yield so I would suggest anyone give it a try just for fun!0

I grew some lettuce in a tub which was a 'pick a leaf' variety. It was lovely. Sorry I can't remember the proper name but the leaves were frilly and long and narrow.A penny saved is one you don't have to earn! :wave:0 -

Plant mini-courgettes plants in hanging baskets, edged with hanging tomatoes and/or parsley.

What about trying some mange tout plants, you will need to put twigs into the soil once you have sown the seed so the plants can clamber over. I think the depth should be OK, don't overfill the container - that way the roots will have plenty of room to spread, and ensure it doesn't dry out as there isn't much depth there.

I have experimented with growing faster maturing plants like salads - radishes are good for growing between rows of other plants. I managed spinach in between runner bean rows last year - give it a go but don't overdo it as nothing will flourish.

Hi All
How deep a container would i need to use to grow carrots in?? just wondered because id love to get a bit more green fingered this year and the main things we eat are carrots, swedes, onions and mushrooms. - so im thinking if i can grow carrots and see how successful i am with them then it will save us a bit!
Plus ive never been big into herbs - have rarely used them im thinking about growing some of those in containers this year and getting to grips with soem culinary stuff because quite frankly i suck at cooking.
any ideas what herbs to grow?? thinking chives i could use instead of onion in some cases - soups maybe etc. and im allergic to parsley.
so say what are the top most useful 5 herbs to grow??
was thinking of chives and mint but id like some mroe input pleaseTime to find me again0
