I know, I should've known better, but I bought a sofa from Harveys in July.
Today was the delivery date, confirmed by text message. Stayed in all morning waiting for the van, no sofa.
Customer services can't even give me a new delivery date.
Anyone thinking of buying from them, please, please search this site for other people's experiences first.

Harveys usually give 'delivery slots' so presume AdrianW2 is saying his has been missed, annoying if he stayed home from work to take delivery and should be going there this afternoon!
Do note that the T&C's from Harveys make it crystal clear that YOU MUST UNWRAP AND INSPECT THE GOODS ON DELIVERY. If they finally show up then you'll have to make the delivery men even later by giving your goods the once over before you let them leave.0 -
Just checked my calendar, and we're definately still on 'today'. Maybe at least wait until early evening before complaining? The delivery team may have been held up.
Delivery slot was for the morning, I did chase it up with their customer services people, and then their delivery people before posting!
The thing that annoys me is that they knew they weren't going to deliver and didn't bother the tell me.0 -
This isn't a problem we'll ever have.
We did once make the mistake of buying some of Harveys tatty furniture and never again. We had a two piece leather suite from them on which the leather began to 'peel' after a bit of use. We reported it to them and they sent out an 'independent' expert to check it. He came to our house and examined sofas and told us that there was a fault with the the coating on the leather and went off to write his report to Harveys. The next thing we got a letter from Harveys stating that the 'independent' expert hadn't found anything wrong! When we told them what the 'independent' expert had told us at the time they basically didn't want to know and clearly couldn't care less that they were peddling cheaply constructed and sub standard furniture. They'd already got our money so what did they care.
My advice would be to avoid Harveys like the plague.The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

I ordered a sofa 12 weeks ago, due for delivery on the 24th September. On my invoice is the delivery date printed right there in black and white, i was told two days [that's today] before i would receive a phonecall in the morning confirming the delivery date and time slot. The phonecall never arrived so i called the local branch where some semi literate child told me that the cargo was rejected from cardiff port due to water damage, he then clammed up and said the manager would have to call me back. 20 mins later he did and could offer no customer comfort at all.
I stated these facts to him, which came directly from his sales person:
1. I was told delivery would be the Thursday 24th September [i booked a week off work to redecorate in preparation]
2. I would recieve a call two days before to confirm the date
His reply was
1. We have never delivered in this area on a Thursday. It has always been a Wednesday or Friday
2. You only get a call if your sofa is coming
My arguement was they didn't have the common courtesy to phone up and say the goods were returned for being 'substandard' and they are awaiting a new delivery. I then asked why was i told that the delivery was going to be on the 24th when they obviously had no intention of ever delivering on that date, and for that fact why on gods earth was the salesperson quoting delivery days when the store should know that there are no deliveries on that day.
his response was that the member of staff hadn't been with them very long. I asked him whether any training was given to aforementioned member of staff, he replied tht it was ongoing. I asked him that maybe this member of staff shouldnt have been let loose on the public if they didnt even know the delivery rota for the area, he again just said that the training was ongoing,
I then asked why was i given the date that is impossible to deliver on, he replied that all dates are an approximation. I replied that I had been told that it would definately be there on that date. He said that as long as they were in their 12 week period they were well within their rights to deliver whenever. I said that 12 weeks was up on monday. will i have it monday he replied no. I asked why, he said they didnt have any. I asked why wasnt i informed that there was a problem, he couldnt answer that. all he said was as long as they were in the 12 week period they were within their rights. I asked him if i would recieved a phonecall on monday. being that is the end of the 12 week period. He said no. I would only recieve a phone call or text message when the sofa was ready to be delivered.
As you can tell i never got a straight answer and still have no idea when the new sofa is coming. I spent the whole conversation going in circles
So what i have gleaned from this is
* Buy a sofa from Harveys
* Get given a pretend delivery date
* Sit in silence and wait
* Wait some more
* Some more waiting
* Definately don't phone or ask any questions
* Pass over the 12 week delivery time
* Don't panic
* Get Christmas and Easter out of the way
* SURPRISE You have 10 minutes to get home and take delivery of your sofa!
Sounds good. I think I'll buy another one0 -
Harvey's? They sponsor that mind-numbing, endlessly grim sack of turds that is Coronation Street, don't they?
Surely that should have been your first indication of the general level of the company?
It's like Iceland sponsoring I'm a Nonentity Get Me Out Of Here - grim, cheap, downmarket and depressing (though with seemingly inexplicable longevity), show and sponsor alike.......0 -

Should what a company sponsors really matter?0 -

It sounds to me like your suite has not made it into the country yet, as when I worked for the company the store manager would tell the staff to blame late deliveries on things that the store had no control over (such as the containers being held up by customs) when the truth was the suppliers were running behind - normally because of the volume of sales, this was especially bad in on goods which were being heavily promoted.
In fairness to the staff they are given order times by head office and most leather suites would take about 12 weeks for delivery, obviously the staff work on commission and have sales targets they need to meet so sometimes they tell the customer what they want to hear (I've know a member of staff get told off by an area manager for telling a customer that a particular suite would not be delivered before Christmas, customer went to another store who told them that they would get it - of course it never turned up)0 -
My experience of Harvey's has been very good.
Last year we decided to buy a new suite and after looking around decided on Harvey's as it was the best offer for what we wanted. Paid our deposit and given a time of approx 8 weeks for delivery. At the exact time quoted we received a text message to say it was ready and to arrange final payment and a delivery time. We went in and paid and arranged delivery for the following Friday. The men came and delivered it within the alloted time and constructed the suite promptly and accurately.
A year later it still looks as good as new.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
