I checked instore today and they're no longer saying this. I was told that that offer has been cancelled.
On the plus side, that obviously means they think England have a good chance of winning ;)
  • Just went into Sports Soccer and they have the adult ones for £11.99 and the boys ones for £8.99.

I had a reply about the postage and got told that the £5.95 I was quoted was right even though the postage guidance said it would be £4.95.

    Hey

Just got this email today from a friend and it worked fine for me

sorry about the long URL, it was sent to me like that. The shirts are £25 for adult sizes but then you can enter in this £15 voucher code (no idea where it came from originally) ZQ603 and so the shirt is then a tenner! and they do free 48hr delivery

    give it a go!
Sweet, One England White Shirt in Mens Large on its way to my Dad for a Tenner all in.

    Superb. and thanks.

  • This is killing us!!
I am a keen Moneysaver but as a small sports retailer I must say that hunts like this, aimed at single items (as opposed to big companies' products like bank accounts, insurance policies, etc), is deeply damaging to small businesses. We are already suffering this year as Umbro's trade prices for their England shirts are higher to us than what customers pay for them at Sports World and some of the other big companies. We just can't compete.
Our England shirts may be a few pounds more than in other places, but is it really only about the money? With the small, independent businesses you will lose the local shops, the personal advise, the dedicated people who know their merchandise well and will get out of their way to serve you.
    Quite desperate,

Not meaning to be rude at all, but would it not be an option for you as the local retailer to do go to the superstore, but all their stock then sell it with lots of advertising for £1 price increase? I'm sure you would get loads in your store as it would save them making a trip to the superstore. PLUS, you would be taking from the big guys (who ARE selling this at a loss), and furthermore, you could have an even bigger result if England win, they'll refund the lot! Sounds fun to me - lol

Not easy as, if i remember correctly, there is a limit of one or two shirts per person (or at least there was with Sports World £11.99 offer at xmas) so would require alot of visits.

As far as smaller retailers are concerned, is so much of your income really from selling England shirts? After all Sports World isn't much use for anything else so surely people still have to visit your shop for other things, eg sports equipment/accessories, this is what smaller retailers should be concentrating on IMO. I know I would as the large national retailers can be pretty hopeless for stuff like that (I say 'would' because unfortunately I don't have any small sports retailers local to me)
  • Yes, we do (just) survive on more specialised sports equipment, but events like the World Cup could be such a nice windfall, like a big cake handed out to sports shops, as there is such a huge special interest in the shirts.

Only that the big boys grab most of it because they can sell them cheaper - and no, I don't think they make a loss as they can order so many that they get them at ridiculously low trade prices. Let's not forget that these shirts are all made in cheap labour countries, it doesn't cost too much to make them, and £40 for a shirt would indeed be a rip-off.

I just wonder if these hunts for the cheapest items will in the end only help the biggest companies as they are the ones who can sell the cheapest, due to the huge numbers they can buy.
