well said,Renault would have fitted the exact battery for the car,not just a cheapy, lets hope the cheap one doesnt cause any dashboard probs:rotfl:

The equivalent battery purchased by the OP will be the same rating as the OEM one, so why would it do that?

I've never had an issue with non-original batteries, any more than I have with other pattern parts I've fitted to many cars over the years. Ultimately if you buy a battery from a main dealer you're going to pay over the odds - needlessly.

lets hope so.but, a lot of places do not,

agree you pay over the odds but not a rip off,

and as like you I always use pattern parts if I can

    £140 versus £40 is very much a rip-off IMO.

A slightly higher price - let's say £60 versus £40 (still 50% extra) & there might be room for argument. £140 versus £40 is clearly a rip-off. They are relying on the fact that many people are either too rich, too naive, or too lazy to look elsewhere & are fleecing them silly.

Disgusting way to treat people IMO, especially since a lot of them (myself included) would have purchased the car from them in the first place. Today's experience has ensured that I won't be buying from them again.

rubber perishes at different speeds depending on many factors so is not really relevant, as the car although new to you has/was probably sitting around for a long time in a storage yard, the price from renault I take is with fitting hence the price, did you fit the £10 ones?

My DH fitted them - and, as they just pulled off/pushed on, took him around 5 minutes to do the lot. I don't think the car had been sitting anywhere for several years so I doubt that affected the lasting time by much. And, in any event, if they did perish before I got the car then the dealer should have replaced them free as it wasn't my fault they wore out! At the very least, they should have just charged me for the wipers and waived the fitting charge. Just adds to the OPs complaint that dealers charge through the nose.

Your logic is totally bizarre, My neighbour drives a Jag which cost twice as much as my Ford - was he ripped off ?

Your argument only becomes meaningful if you can be absolutely sure that the two batteries are absolutely identical in every technical aspect.
You have not offered one piece of evidence to support that.

just because you buy a car from the showroom does not mean that it is brand new:confused: all cars are sitting in a compound till the dealer needs them:Twasnt your fault they wore out SO was it the dealers then???

SO why have you not argued about the overheads?? shall we do a comparison?

and why do you still insist that it is a rip off, take your money elsewhere and you will find that if you wake up and smell the coffee that ALL main dealers are more expensive than high street garages,IT IS NOT A RIP OFF!!!!!

Sorry but that's utter rubbish. I'm comparing like for like - test & replace a new battery for a Renault. You're comparing the cost of a Jag to the cost of a Ford. Any you call MY logic bizarre lol.

First you say that "ALL main dealers are more expensive than high street garages" then you say it's NOT a rip-off lol. So if they're all at it that makes it OK does it?

Also you keep going on about overheads when there is no difference. Both Renault & F1 have to have premesis & mechanics. Exactly what other overheads do you think there are in changing a battery?

Anyone with any sense can see this for the rip-off it is. You can defend dealers as much as you like, it's still a rip-off.

But feel free to be ripped off yourselves if it makes you happy :rotfl:

Renault Main dealers are probably "Full Up" with warranty repairs, as are most main dealers, of course their dearer, who do you think pays for the "free" coffee, papers, plush waiting rooms, dolly birds on the reception etc

That is the point - if you cannot see it then you are the one who is more likely to be ripped off.

These two batteries WILL NOT be the same !
