you need to make sure there;s port forwarding setup on your router.
Remote desktop uses TCP port 3389.
check the portforward.com/ website on how to enable it on your router
Consult with O2 they may be blocking ports on their mobile connections0 -

The OP is using RDP over VPN which would route all traffic through that tunnel and not use the standard RDP ports.
In addition he is RDPing out of his machine so would not need to port forward. The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

You say the VPN connects within the VMWare Session, if so do you get an IP Address from the remote network?
Out of interest do you use all these connections at the same time?
Yes. When I do an ipconfig without VPN enabled I get one entry. When I enable a VPN, I get 2 entries.
Most of the time I would only have my main session open and one VM session open connected to a customer site.
It is unlikely that I'd enable 2 VPNs at the same time. Why?
Thanx

Check whether the VMnet networks are getting bound to the O2 dongle. You can do this using the "Manage VirtualNetworks" programs (or whatever its called nowadays)
An alternative (if allowed) would be to install a VMWare product (player, server etc) at each of teh customer sites and have a VM running with remote access software such as logmein.Chris Elvin0 -
I am also thinking that to use the dongle, the VMs would need to be in NAT rather than bridged mode because they probably won't be able to get a DHCP address from the O2 networkChris Elvin0
