I packing for holidays, and have managed very easily on 15kg luggage for a week in turkey. In fact it was well under 12kg and the case weighed 2.5kg.
Clothes wise I would take 5 basic vest tops, 4 night time tops, 2 shorts, 1 long trousers 1 crop trousers 2 skirts. 3 pairs shoes (pumps, sandals, heels) light jacket. 3 bikini's and 1 sarong. Almost forgot underwear lol! 7 knickers an a couple of bras.
I choose dark bottoms so I get a couple of wears out of them, and travel in the heaviest things.
I find it harder packing for the kids as DD wants to take everything she owns lol!

A friend of mine says she takes her oldest undies and leaves them behind! .
That's something that really maddens me. If we aren't contributing enough to the landfill problems here in the UK we dump our rubbish around the rest of the world, too.

I only take 1 pair of pants on holiday and don't bother with a bra, I'm not that well blessed! I wear them to travel in wash 'em and wear them home again. Heck, I'm on holiday.

For short trips the sacks still come too .... Its sad but at least one of the sacks comes with me even on an overnight trip somewhere! :o I just can't get my head around packing without them now!

My OH is a bit like that - too many years of 2 or 3 week intercontinental trips on business, including lots to Israel, have resulted in him being a "laundry-fold" man with a zip-bag for each shirt/t-shirt. He reckons it's so much easier when your bag is picked on by El-Al security staff as they can lift everything out & stick it all back without too much mess - and he can see if anything gets left on the table, like toiletries.

I have to admit to folding my things that way now....but haven't yet started with the bags.

I even count tea-bags and take exactly the right amount.
We recently spent a week self-catering in the UK, and I found a box of 40 Redbush teabags was about right for a week. However it wasn't quite enough on our recent holiday in Fuerteventura when I guess it was hotter so I was drinking a lot more!

I thought I'd seen some in a supermarket out there, but couldn't then find them when I needed them. I was saved by finding an emergency stash in my handbag.

I've been doing it for over 20 years and have only be badly caught out once when our plane was grounded and we had to stay for an extra night in a hotel
I've always done what I need, plus one for luck. That served me well when the boys were at the stage of throwing up in the car ... and I haven't quite lost the habit now.

what about medicines? Do you takeeverything you can think of incase you get something or just the basics like paracetemol and maybe a few plasters?
I keep small bottles for our vitamins and supplements and decant exactly what I need into those. They live in a small zip bag, handy for carrying down to breakfast.

But that's about all I take. Always a few ibuprofen or paracetamol in my handbag, see ...

I have always had a packing list: when the boys were younger I'd give them a copy too, and expect them to get their bits together. Each boy had his own list: Clownie on DS3's list, Brown Bear on DS2's, LOTS of books for DS1. :rotfl:

I now have a packing list which I customised from an old MSE tip, and I check it both before packing here, and when packing to come home. It's useful to take it with me because I can add things to it that I've forgotten and remember them next time ...

DH took the bare minimum this last holiday: no spare shoes for example. I had my trainers and my smart sandals, but didn't wear either, so maybe next time I'll leave them at home ...
