if i was to move into a house either rent or mortgage and say i had to move not for personal reasons i.e.family problems would i receive a bursary therefore not having to pay fees and not pay the money i receive back.
basically i pay most of my fees cause my parents earn x amount, but if i was living on my own and had my income and my bf income (which wudnt be much) would i qualify as not enough income to support myself at uni??

it goes by age, so unless you have specific circumstances which will qualify you for independant student status (eg permanent estrangement from family). they will still consider your family's income (if these details are not provided, i believe you would just get the minimum loan entitlement and would be expected to make up any difference yourself).
not sure if the situation is different for scotland, but if you're asking will (possibly faking) a family feud get you out of paying fees? im afraid not. i claimed independant student status due to family breakdown, and had to fight tooth and nail for it INSPITE of having many of the differnt forms of 'proof' they said they accepted.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
No, you wouldn't...
Unfortunately, the SLC care only about how much your parents earn. They DO NOT care if they actually give you a penny of it, or not.
So, if you move out of home (as, lets face it, most students do), or even move cities, you'll be no likely to receive one.
The only real way would be for your folks to take a dramatic pay cut.
Its rather stupid in my opinion. My parents earn enough for me to have to pay full fees, but I don't see a penny of it... My house mates parents don't earn quite so much, so he doesn't pay fees, yet, his parents still give him a rather hefty amount each month, far more than I have ever received... (not that I have ever had pocket money or anything like that).

Generally if your over 25 then your an independent student regardless of who you live with.
When your under 25 you can only claim independence if you have been estranged from your parents for 3 years (with proof, social workers involvement, pay slips from jobs) or if your married.
.... so if you get you boyf to marry you
you'll get full loans, grants and lots of other things from you uni cos you'll be classed as low income family.
If thats not a reason to get married.....(joke)0 -
Not strictly true - If the OP married then her 'husbands' income would be used to assess the contribution. You would only get 'extras' if you had children or a disability cos the system recognises the extra costs of these. Also its difficult to find accommodating work if you have the above. If you're able to work surely you should be able to support yourself?~A mind is a terrible thing to waste on housework~0
