Premium Bonds payout to increase by 50%

  • Ok just woke up but if this is anything to go by I will be getting double what I normally get £0. I must be the unluckiest person in the past three years not a penny.

I was thinking of buying some more and this morning, I did.

I had my first ever win of £25 last month and it's gone to my head! :)

It's gone up from an average payout of 1% to 1.5%. Gosh.

I don't think I'll empty my savings accounts into Premium Bonds just yet.

It suits me as I don't rely on interest on my (meagre) savings and I quite like the idea that I might win something big. I know it's only a small chance, but it's a chance nevertheless with no risk.

  • About time too, perhaps my luck will start to change as well

We use PB's for emergency funds, and for fun.
We both have holdings of bonds. Over the last year we are up significantly on the year before that. My holding is well up, and Mrs.D's is well down.

Which only shows that for some, life isn't fair.

As the number of prizes and the prize fund are both going up by about 50% presumably this means no "big" changes to te prize structure - i.e. still one £1 million prize and still £25 is the smallest prize (I wonder if they will ever change it back to £50? More smaller prizes means more admin but also more customers get that winning feeling).

With one proviso... except for higher rate taxpayers.
