Someone who understand Oyster card statement needed please
Hi, my Oyster card seems to be costing me a fortune, I can't make head nor tail of last weeks journey's but it looks like it has topped up twice but I can't see the money added if you see what I mean on the 11th.
It does also look like I have not swiped off of the 1 bus journey I made, so can I get that corrected? I am really sorry this is not easy reading, I can't get the copy over to format in a readable way!

You don't swipe out on buses - so that bit's OK. (If you do you might get charged for a second journey - I don't know if the machines are intelligent enough to know it's the same bus and not charge)
At a quick glance the rest looks OK to me. When you enter the tube or DLR you get charged £4 - the maximum single fare. When you leave, you get creditted back an amount so as the net charge is the Oyster single fare for the journey.
There's a complication if you switch between tube and DLR - when you leave the DLR it will do a credit so as just to charge you for the DLR journey. When you enter the tube it will go uh uh journey not complete and reverse that credit, then charge for the complete journey when you leave the tube.
There's the complication of daily capping as well if you make enough journeys - I'm guessing that's what happened on the 8th0 -
I agree it's a bit of a nightmare to interpret and guess the difference between the DLR and tube systems accounts for the confusion about an apparent double top-up of £20 but I'd be inclined to check my card to see how much has actually been taken from your account.
I do know that you don't swipe off when on buses and if you do try to swipe a second time you get a message saying "passback attempted" presumably to alert a driver that someone's handed their card to a second person to swipe? So you can't be charged more than once for the same bus journey.0 -
I have checked my credit card and I have been charged both those £20 top up's. But looking at the Oyster statement it seems only to show 1 £20 as a credit.0
-
I would query your last top up. It looks like they only topped up your oyster card with £4.50 instead of 20. You are missing 15.50 credit.
The charges and fares look fine though.Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0 -
actually it looks like the 1st credit was correct. But around the second , something funny happened
This means after your journey to Custom House on the the morning of Wednesday 9th, your balance was £20.0118:22 Custom House DLR Entry - £4.00 £20.51
18:22 Custom House DLR Auto top-up £20.00 £24.51
09/09/09
08:17 Custom House DLR Exit £1.30 £20.01
Next entry is the evening of Friday the 11th (36 hours later). From the numbers there, before you entered Custom House your balance was £4.51. Your entry caused a charge of £4.00, and an associated top up.
So the crucial bit is the change from £20.01 at 8:17 Weds Morning, to £4.51 Friday evening- a difference of £15.50
Did you do no travelling at all between those times? If you did, it looks like the statement is at fault. Though even then £15.50 is a lot, given the maximum for your normal zone 1-3 journeys is £8.60 per day.
If you made no journeys between those times then there is a serious problem.0 -
If he hadn't travelled between the 9th and 11th as shown on his post, which even if he did, there is no explanation that would explain the amount taken out as there is a daily cap.
That is why I still think his last balance of 20.01 was only credited with 4.50 instead of the 20 he was supposed to have.Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0 -
The £15.50 still falls within the daily cap.
Max (for zones 1 to 3 @ £8.60 per day) is £25.80 for Weds to Fri
Subtracting the 2*£2.70 which do appear on the bill leaves a possible max of £20.40
This is all surmise, but:
It appears that the OP works in Custom house, and spends weekday nights somewhere near Pentonville Road.So the journey home on Weds, both journeys on Thurs, and the journey to work on Fri are all missing.
I think the OP probably travelled on those days, but the statement is lacking0 -
Looks like you've solved it, we just need the OP to clarify that he has travelled during the missing period!Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0
