okthis appologies if this is a bit long.
im trying to reduce our costs for the phone bill as we're skiiiint.
we currently have BT line rental and a sky phone package.
now most of our costs are to non geographic numbers (0845 etc) and mobile numbers.infact they all are as the normal ones are included in the package.
reading up on this website i have found some interesting things.
firstly as we are paying for BT line rental does this mean we can dial '1280' 0845 ******* and not have to pay for the call.
and secondly the rate for mobile calls is 6am-6pm = 9p other=5p . how and which overide number to use for cheaper mobile calls. and does having sky mean i cant use overide.
thinking of changing to sky line rental but if the 1280 thing is true might not be so wise.
any advice would be appeciated.

No, you CANNOT use the 1280 prefix to send a call via BT. That no longer works if you have Sky Talk (even if you have left your line rental with BT) - you are stuck with whatever Sky charges for ALL your calls.
However, you may find using 18185 (such override providers still work if you've left your line rental with BT) cheaper for some types of calls.
Check www.18185.co.ukTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
NO WAY! so we havent been using/saving with that service and now they dont even do it anymore...that sucks...
ok i've looked at the 18185 thing. it looks promising.
i guess the more relevant question is why not go back to BT? 18185 has a connection charge of 4or5p..and rates of 6p PM for mobiles. BT are saying you pay £1.50 a month and get all mobile calls for 7p PM.. on BT 0845's etc are free anyway and no connection charges. atleast with bt you dont have to keep dialing in 18185 all the time.
we get broadband thru sky and intend to continue to do so.dont know if that effects anything.0 -

You will pay an extra £5pm to have your broadband without Sky Talk.0 -
0870 now in calling plan on Sky but no move on 0845. Unlimited does include cals to 20 euro destinations though (useful for some!).
Talk Talk is the best package but the worst company.0
