Any rights? Light which had previously been replaced due to a fault.

I bought a standard lamp and also a floor lamp a couple of years ago only to find that the bulbs for them cost a small fortune to replace but the shop assistant had assured me that they would last for years without having to be replaced. I later had both these lights replaced by the store as the bulbs continued to blow frequently. The new lamps were considerably better but I still had to change bulbs on a regular basis but had managed to find bulbs for them in the pound shops so I wasn't as bothered as I love the lights.
However, last night one of the bulbs exploded completely shattering one of the glass lightshades and sprayed glass all over the place - thankfully my young daughter was not in the room - I hate to think what could have happened if she had been next to the lamp.
Do I have any consumer rights due to faulty goods? The lamp should surely have fused rather than this happen but I appreciate the lamps are not new.
Any advice gratefully received as the lamps were quite expensive and I can't really afford to replace them.

Nope, it is obviously the bulb that's faulty, not the light. A faulty light wouldn't make a bulb explode, however poor quality bulbs aren't always the safest option...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I would never in a million years have put cheaper bulbs into my lights if I had known that there was a chance that they would explode - I presumed that they were just so much cheaper because they were being bought by the retailer in bulk. I am astounded that they are on sale in the first place if this can happen.0

I know the bulbs were cheap but I have seen them at this price now in several shops and the ones in the light shop where I bought the lights were £4.50 per bulb. My lights each take 3 bulbs so there was a considereable price difference and also the ones which cost £4.50 lasted the same amount of time as the £1 ones.
AS I SAID IF I HAD THOUGHT THAT ANY BULBS ON SALE IN THIS COUNTRY WOULD BE CAPABLE OF EXPLODING I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED TRADING STANDARDS TO TAKE THEM OFF THE SHELF!0
