This would be the case even if you had no right to be there at all.0 -

Sorry I thought this was a forum where people would be able to help me, didnt realise Id be judged on my circumstances!
To those of you who have actually been helpful, my council tax is paid until the end of May 2008 which was the last full month I was there after which I moved back home to my parents after being made redundant so I dont have any council tax bills from a new property.
Looks like im just going to have to pay the full amount they are asking for0 -

Get an appointment at the Citizens Advice Bureau - they must come across this scenario fairly often and have pointers how to manage it.
Have you considered finding your landlord to ask for a copy of your old tenancy agreement or to provide confirmation that your tenancy ended, either by approaching the current tenants to provide it, or leave them a letter asking them to forward it. Or downloading the ownership details at the land registry - if he bought it via Buy to Let - it may provide his residential address.0 -

I'm assuming that before posting here you phoned the council and spoke to someone regarding this? Because I can't imagine why this couldn't be sorted with a single phonecall. We had no problems - just phoned the council a week before we moved out to let them know and paid the final bill. No evidence was needed.0

Just send them a letter saying you lived at <property address> from <date moved in> until <date moved out> and that you have paid all council tax for these dates. Then go on to say that on <date you move out>, you moved in with your parents at <insert address>.
Perhaps enclose a witness statement from your parents stating the date you moved in.
Also enclose a copy of the bank statements showing the date of the last rent payment coinciding with the date you moved out.
Could you not get the LLs details from teh land registry? (unless the house has since been sold and would have a different owner, which be obvious by the dates).Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
