I changed my mind at last minute and im here now in cairo. All is well. The hotel, sofitel maadi has at least 3 good restaurants, the buffet is eat as much as u like for 8.50 quid. Thats the most expensive meal youll ever buy. Theres a mexican, and an italian with half decent pastas. If you get a room, politely decline it, insist on the 15th floor, top floor, regardless what they tell u- the reason - the view and the quality of the bed, furniture and tv. Some of the lower flight rooms are 3 stars, definetly not 4 stars.I checked around... But on the 15th floor its a completely different picture. The view is great, you can see the nile river and in the distance the tops of the pyramids - well cool. Safety wise, I'd say, nothing to really worried about. Extra security is present with metal detectors and guards with guns outside. Taxis, dont use the hotel ones. Walk down the street and flag one down and pay half the price. There is a shuttle bus that goes from the hotel to the city and back again, and its free. I think you'll enjoy this solo or with your pals.
The triple room thing doesnt really work, you get a double room and they stick another bed in, so decline it if u dont need it otherwise you wont be able to move around.
The pool is ok, not spectacular, but for the price you paid, i dont think youll be complaining. Massages are 8 quid for 30 minutes.
There is a shopping store "alpha market" for most supermarket goodies, and its just 2 mins walk, turn right out of main entrance. Suggest you get 2 big boxes of water there 20p each otherwise you're paying 6x that in the hotel.
I cant check internet very often, but every few days.
The internet cafe round the corner, 2 mins walk out the back entrance of the sofitel maadi, Infinity Cyber cafe charges you 20p for 30 mins. The hotel one is 1.50 quid for 30 mins. Take your pic.
Thats all for now
Hope this helps!

Hi all,
If anyone wants my stay in this hotel from 1-8th September 2006, I'd be happy to let you have it for the same price I booked it for, £42 for the entire week. This will avoid me paying a £6 cancellation fee.
If anyone would like it, PM me with up to three names you'd like to add to the booking and I'll make the change immediately.

Here's the hotel website: http://www.sofitel.com/sofitel/fichehotel/gb/sof/1526/fiche_hotel.shtml
It basically includes a standard triple room for up to 3 people and breakfast for 7 nights. Read the rest of the thread to get a better idea. The usual price is around £700 I think!
