  • We've been looking ourselves after buying a new TV recently. The sound from the TV isn't great so I've been searching.

    1. I suppose that choice is up to you. What exactly are you waiting for?

    2. Depends on how much you're willing to spend, but you can get True HD and DTS HD.

    3. They do. Here's a version by Samsung.

    4. You could certainly do it that way. An AV receiver should in theory be better than a DVD/Blu ray player doing the same thing. The AV receivers I've seen are on their own and you add whatever speakers you want.

    5. Sorry, don't know.

    1. i am jsut curious whether they may be expected to come down in price as they are expensive. as they are fairly new i am also wondering if it may be better to wait for better models to come out.
3.i cant find a price or a store that sells that samsung. i imagine that one may be too expensive anyway. i also dont like samsung disc players as our current dvd home cinema is samsung and it is temporamental when deciding what disc it will or wont play. it is fairly noisy as well. i am looking at sony or panasonic.
these two seem to be the best options.

1 ~ worth buying now (depends on what your willing to spend on one though)
    2 ~ yes (Disc dependant)
3 ~ it really doesnt. Most 'audiophiles' have said that 5.1 sounds better than 7.1 (My dads setup which is in the region of 20k is the same)
4 ~ definitely, so long as its a decent one
5 ~ no, you need a hd decoder (So an amp with one built in or have a player that decodes it and sends via 'analogue' phono leads)

Your PS3 will play Blu rays better than most budget bluray players (Upto around 200 quid). Id say certainly better than what you use now
Im confused though as youve not posted any (Have you?)

its my dad thats asking as no matter what i say he isnt happy with bluray on the ps3. it is mainly the sound we get through the samsung dvd home cinema he doesnt like. he also says he cant be bothered with all the messing about connecting the optical cable and changing the settings on the ps3 everytime he wants to watch a bluray. stupid reasons i know. i am trying to get him to be happy with it. so i figure if he insists i might as well try and find out which is the best for us all things considered, that is why this thread is here. although if we got a bluray home cinema we would be getting dolby true hd and dts hd.
in post number 3 there is two links for blu ray home cinema systems that we are looking at.

    i have the ps3 and 360
    bluray/HD dvd respectivly
i would say the PS3 outputs better sound over the 360 through my panasonic AV set up.
mines all set up through HDMI though so none of the issues your dad has

personally i think av recievers are a rip off. 2 to 300 pounds plus for something that just transmits the sound and picture. you then have to spend another 2 to 300 pounds plus on speakers. total con even if they do sound better.

    edit.
he moans that background sounds like explosions sound too loud and then when he turns the volume down he cant hear the dialogue.

If you have a whole bunch of stuff to connect to it, such as satellite receiver, a Blu-ray player, and an Xbox 360, it's not such a rip off.

They're better, so they cost more.

He needs to tun the volume of the centre speaker up (or reduce the volume of the others).
