HELP needed re toshiba laptop choice

Please help - going to uni to study computing, and I've no idea which laptop to buy.
Have decided to buy Toshiba (I think!). I've around £600 to spend and am looking for a fast proceesing speed, and at least 3g ram and the best value for my money. Don't want to just go for something and find that one of the features is very poor! Any advice would be welcome! I really don't know where to start!!!!!!!!!!!
