wonder if anybody else had similar problem to ours we have sickness and unemployment cover with l&g my husband being a bricklayer has been unemployed for a good while now,so we claimed as he is self employed and i work part time we do not get anything except tax credit they said we cant have anything because he has to have a letter from taxman to say he has ceased trading they wont give one because when we did tax return in april we didnt tell that we did not think he would still be unemployed but there is nothing about i feel they have taken the money for the last 5 yrs for nothing does anybody know if there is any thing we can do

Your husband has to be classed as unemployed. For self employed that doesnt mean no jobs currently on. It means closing the business (cease paying class 2 NI) and signing on at the benfits agency.

If neither of those things have happened then your husband is not unemployed. He is still claseed as being self employed. He's just not busy in the eyes of the tax man and insurer I'm afraid
