Hi Guys and Gals
We have a spare laptop running windows xp with no floppy or cd drive and the pc is locked. For example when you try and login it says it can only be unlocked by the administrator. Between the team we have tried very password we have recently used without any joy.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how we can access the computer??
Thanks

Is this the only account on the system???
I think not try booting up in safe mode and you should also get a Administrator account to log into, by default this isn't password protected
Is this a works Laptop??0 -
Have you tried the hidden, default administrator account ?, in most cases its never password protected.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Yes we have tried the administrator account in safe mode without any success - any other suggestions?

You could take out the hard disk and put it into new pc, copy files from it and reformat.
But to have lockled the pc is usually uses the password for the account who locked it, also anyone with admin rights who has a password should be able to unlock it with their password.0 -

No floppy or cd drive? Laptop? How on earth is that even possible as no media can be installed what-so-ever!
My advise would be install an internal floppy or cd drive. Then you can use downloadable software to boot into the SAM data files and edit the administrator passwords....
A laptop without floppy or cd drive is as good as a dead donkey really...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
