In a nutshell, wrote to Abbey, listed all my charges which mounted to £950 and asked to be reimbursed under the hardship waiver. Told them I had mortgage arrears, defaulted on one credit card and owed Gas and Electricity.
I got a letter today to say they were looking into it and asked me to complete an Expenditure, Assets and Liability form and to respond in 7 days of the letter. The letter was dated 7th Sept, received today and they didn't enclose the form! So I called them (they admitted to having slow postage problems), when I asked about the form, the chap said that my case was already being considered without the form, he then opened a letter (dated today) from my casefile which said that given my circumstances, they were giving me £275 as a goodwill gesture and were going to wave charges due to go out on the 19th. He went on to say that come the big decision day, if it all went the customers way, I would get the balance (or words to that effect).
I could really do with the full amount - or close to it to pay bills right now. Is the £275 an offer to be negotiated or a one time offer? I kind of got the impression that the money would just be put into my account, even without me accepting the offer (before the 19th when other charges go out).
Another option, I have mortgage arrears with Abbey, do you think they'd consider putting the full amount towards my arrears instead of the £275 goodwill gesture?

If you want to complete one of their hardship forms then I managed to get one from them and it is posted on the Legal Beagles site

Thanks guys. I'll download the form and forward it on with a request for more.
Is it worth trying to ask for the full amount to be offset against my mortgage arrears (Abbey bank account/Abbey mortgage). Should I call them tomorrow? Or are they like separate businesses under the same name?
Also, what if they put the money in before they get to see my form, will that make a difference?
Thanks again, I really appreciate your advice.

The argument is lifestyle event ie made redundant leads to less income and charges that impact on your ability to pay priority debt arrears. You might want to look at charges since that lifestyle event and argue for more on that basis. Thanks guys. I'll download the form and forward it on with a request for more.
