I need help with my debt

Hello
I have decided to start a new thread about my debt also I am facing to it and try to cut on everything I can but it's not so easy. I need your help with this.
Here are my debts:
Egg loan £11837.89 at 6.7 % paying £311.50 a month
City card £487.93 at 29.99% min.payment £15
Etam card £311.95 at 29.99% min. payment £15
barclaycard £3473.88 at 24.99% min payment £70 a month
Freenams £243.98 at 0% min paym. £44 a month.
Mothercare £26.07 at 21.99% will be paid off this month.
(OH) Capital One - £596.60 at 29.99% min paym. £32.
Mobile phone £350 - was paying £25 a week.
Total debt at 08/05/2006 - 17328.30

But the problem is that my OH have lost his job 2 month ago and still unemployed and i was temping but contract finished on friday so I am unemployed as well. I am looking for a full time job but not much luck. Because i don't drive (was taking lessons) it is difficult to find a well paid job in my local area. I have a choice to commute to London but it is at least 3 hours a day commuting.
Any ideas?

  • Hi there,

I would say, although this is stating the obvious that you both need to get work, and fast! Is there any jobs you can do locally until you both find something permanent? Bar work, shop work, restaurant/cafes.

How are you going to manage any bills without you both working? Do you have a mortgage/rent ?

For the interim periods you will need to sell all you can on ebay, amazon, do carboots etc.

I am unsure you will even begin to takle any of your debts with no income at all coming in, is your oh claiming jsa, do you have any children.

    Keep posting,
    love

    Hi Lubava

Sorry to hear you are both without jobs at the mo. Are there other agencies you could sign up with to get temp work? I appreciate the wages may not be what you've been used to, but it's better than nothing. Have you got any money coming in from benefits in the mean time?

Can you eBay stuff, do a car boot sale, etc? Every little bit does help.

Could you contact your creditors and explain your circumstances to see if they could freeze interest and take a token payment for a few months?

Can you post your SOA then we can help with cutting your outgoings. It should free up some money to pay towards your debts.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge and advice will be along soon to offer suggestions.

And good luck with the job hunting - hope something turns up real soon.

    Thank you for your posts.
I have contacted my loan provider and have taken payment holliday for a month. I made all the payments for this month when I had job so I have no payments coming out till the end of this month. I have an interview tomorrow with possible start on Thursday so keep my fingers crossed.
My OH registered with Jobcentre but so far he only got 1 week worth of benefits so he has meeting with them on friday and will find out why he hasn't received anything after that.
We have rent of £475 wich will be due on 01st of June.
I also applied for an Egg 0% card last week and it sad that I was approved but don't know for how much waiting for a vredit agrrement. I'm hoping to transfer balances from my small cards.
I am going to sell some books on the Amazon and my OH is selling some stuff on the Ebay but so far he only managed to sell one item.

Just to say, whereabouts are you living? Surely there must be jobs closer to you than london?

I live in Kent. But I moved to Kent from London because of OH and we are strugling ever since (it was 2 years ago).My OH had not bad job but was dissmissed because of his attendance(this due to health reasons). We are looking into taking his former employer to the Working tribunal but its very long shot.

And most of the jobs need you to drive because of the locations outside town.I was taking driving lessons but stop now because i cannot afford it. I have theory test booked for the 22nd of May but i still need to have at least 10 more driving lessons to book driving test and it will be a question of getting a car.

So Im guessing neither of you will get JSA as you left your other jobsd, right?

Where abouts in Kent, close to london ( ie bromley) or far out?

You might want to consider doing a full SOAtoo

I have just listed some books on the Amazon hoping to sell quick because i put the price less that the lowest price for the new item. I have quiet a few books to sell so I'll sort them tonight and list it on the Amazon.
I will do full SOA tonight as well because now I have to go to see the agency about the jobs as I've just got the call.
