noisy freezer after defrosting it quickly

I've just defrosted my freezer (tried hairdryer for about 1 minute, then just squirted hot water from a bottle over the ice instead to loosen and remove ice).
I needed to do it fairly quickly as getting a tesco order later today.
I've dried it and switched it back on but it keeps making noises every so often, some VERY LOUD pops/bangs at times. Is this normal? I only defrost about once a year so can't remember if it was this bad last time.
I'm wondering if something internal is still frozen with doing it in about 2 hours. I've always been loathe to defrost naturally overnight in case I end up with a flooded kitchen!
