How Often Should Your Supplier Read Your Meter
I have a problem with Atlantic Electricity at the moment. They have sent me a bill in excess of £500 as the meter has not been read for over 2 years! It is my understanding that they have to read the meter every two years is this so? I have also been advised that I only have to pay for one year as they have some sort of obligation previously introduced by OFGEM?

I believe your supplier is obligated to read your meter once every 2 years.
What period is your bill for? All previous bills would have stated that they were estimated and normally tell you to call up and give an up to date read, to ensure accurate bills.0 -
Your supplier must make "reasonable endevours" to read your meter at least once every two years. If your meter is on the inside of your property or somewhere that the meter reader would not have access to if you were not present when they visited, then they most likely have not done anything wrong.
The one year back billing code is when your supplier has not generated you a bill for over one year, due to an error on their part. It does not apply if they have been sending you estimated bills that you havnt bothered to check.Sunny in Southampton.0 -
I usually phone up and give a meter reading every quarter (3 months) as I understand energy companies review your account every quarter0

Firstly, than you for your replies and advice. I have had a few visits to hospitals to contend with inbetween writing the first post and this one. Any way, under a "Goodwill Payment" guise they gave us £264! off the £500 bill. It pays to make a few calls and write a few letters. But most of all use the MSE Website!!!!!0
