Hello

I have over look the cancellation date for the electric and it has gone into renewal although the contract ends next month.

They have put me on automatic 2 year renewel at a silly price, almost double what I was paying.

Is there any way out

I suppose a few people will have to get bitten, but the best way out is not to go in in the first place.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • They will not budge! So I told them I have sold the business and the new owner will be taking over then.

Would this get me out? I can set up a new account under my dads name.
  • By rolling the contract over British Gas are just applying the terms and conditions of the contract you agreed with them (assuming that you are not disputing the contract).

Now you have raised this issue with British Gas it is highly unlikely that they will just action a change of tenancy without requesting specific documentary proof such as a tenancy agreement from the (fictitious) new tenant. I would imagine they would be even more suspicious if your father has the same surname.

Suppliers are accustomed to the various methods used by business customers trying to get out of contracts and/or paying bills so short of actually selling your business to your father you would be very fortunate to get away with this.

This is not likely to get past British Gas and it could be seen as fraud. You have already tried to speak with them regarding the renewal and you say they didn't budge.

Usually they can offer a different price right up to the contract renewal date so it would be worth pushing them. The least that I would expect is that they would only apply the roll over for 12 months rather than 2 years.

Keep trying, persistence is the key here.
  • I was reading through the clauses and it says that if I were to cancel the contract I would have to pay for the amount of electricity I would of used with them for the 2 years at a fraction of the price.

I worked it out to be about £500! This is where I'll need some help, to see if its worth cancelling.

    British Gas prices:
    Standing charge: 46.890 p/day
    Unit charge: 14.090 p/kWh
    Annual consumption 30,000

    Total Energy prices:
    Standing charge: 46.890
    Unit Charge: 7.890

Is it worth me cancelling? Would I be able to save by cancelling?
