Almost completed on a house now negotiating price for oil!

We are just about to complete on a house and they have said they want to be paid for the remaining Kerosene which I think is only fair.

The problem is they paid 52 pence a litre in early 2009 for 700 litres. Based on what is left (around 1,000 Litres) they want £530 for it. I've only recieved one quote so far but for £530 we can have 1,500 litres today.

I spoke with my Father and he just so happened to buy 1,000 litres at around the same time the vendor paid over the odds as around 32 pence a litre.

How would you handle this? They won't be able to take it away with them and the ball is in our hands really. Should I suggest the average of my quotes and my folks bill? In the grand scheme of the sale this seems quite pedantic and I feel like I am being difficult. Has anyone else been through this situation?

If it was me I certainly wouldn't want to lose you as a buyer over a few hundred quid for some oil.

Your sellers would be most unreasonable if they did not accept your offer of the current purchase price. I would consider that to be very fair.

    Good luck
  • Tell them they can take their old overpriced oil with them.

Offer them £300 ... tell them they're welcome to reject your offer and take it with them ...
  • google boiler juice and get a quote for todays price and offer them that, should be around 33ppl,

like before i would offer £300 no more
  • Thanks for your responses I will get three quotes and offer the average. I think they will be ok for that.
  • This is down to negotiation and what your prepared to pay for it. If it was my property that I was selling I wouldn't even had asked for payment. Its not as if I could easily syphon it off and take it with me is it. This is a cheeky request but they are probably looking at it as worth atry, but is it worth it on the scheme of things, a bit like squabbling over a dishwasher, its just not worth it. You could pay the full amount they are asking, which would be foolish if you can get 1500L for the same price. Secondly... you could watch them try and remove it.:D
