Prepaid Credit Cards?

I saw these while I was in the USA 2004 and had a look for them when I came back here. From what I can see there is only the 1 UK company doing them.

The reason I want/need one is that I have a Cap 1 account but they wont let me use it as Im claiming back my charges from them. No-one else will give me a card so im left with prepay.

Has anyone got any experience of these? I know there are monthly charges involved with these cards, but hey its gotta beat £20 per month late payment charge.

Also I want to use my card to pay for a rentla car when I go back to the USA this summer. Once there they will use the card to 'hold' a security deposit. Is this deposit physically going to have to be available on the card for them to do it?

Cheers in advance guys.

They arent very common over here yet but I am sure they will be taking off before too long - I know that my employers are looking into them (though for different reasons).

I would be very surprised if they did not require the full vehicle deposit to be there on the card "to be held" for a rental vehicle in the same way that you must have enough credit on your card if you have the traditional "credit" card
