my seasons holidays have I won or is it a con?

Options
I just got a letter from my seasons holidays saying I had won a prize worth over £3000 and to phone a freephone nunmber to claim my prize.

I will of course phone the number but before I do I want to know if I should hide my credit card first:p and if any others have won or know about the company.

I sometimes enter competitions online so it could be genuine but I thought I would check here first.

I had a quick search online but nothing detrimental has come up yet.

Stan.

Freephone sounds ok but Iwould google the phone number first - dont give any address details until your sure - if its a sales pitch youll soon guess. No card details if they ask of course.

Looking at the website looks like a holiday ownership developers site so probably is a sales pitch.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives.:j

Sorry, its a con. Search for clubseasons and see what turns up.

You will be invited to a presentation (image of you receiving a prize from a celebrity) but in fact its a sales presentation, and you will have to pay an admin fee in order to receive your prize (so not really a prize) and listen to some smarmy git talk about special prices for today only.

If you want rid of them, when they phone back tell them its great your luck has finally changed having lost your job and getting divorced (they will run a mile if you are not employed or married).

  • I think that just about everyone who ever entered an online competition 'won' a ClubSeasons holiday at some time. Unfortunately the yearly charges for the holdiay were never mentioned in the prize letter and usually you could buy a yearly holiday much cheaper.

This looks remarkably similar I'm afraid.

  • Yes its a timeshare but personally think its worth every penny, we holiday about 6 times a year with them and never had a problem.

If I wanted a timeshare I would buy a timeshare not enter a competition that says win a holiday but in reality it is a timeshare.

So why did they send me a personalised card saying

    Congratulations

You may recalling entering a prize draw [which I did, for a holiday, no mention of timeshare]

I am delighted to confirm you have won a prize worth £3750

So if I phone them up they will give me a prize worth £3750 that I can actually collect on without it costing me anything extra?

    Yeh! get real.:rotfl:

A friend of mine entered and won a competition for a holiday for 4 in Majorca. Everything was paid for, they were picked up from their home, taken to the airport, put on a plane and when they arrived in Majorca they were taken to an all inclusive hotel for a week. Plus he got £500 spending money.

That is a prize for winning a competition, not this timeshare rubbish.

Actually it's not a con and believe me, I'm the world's biggest sceptic. It's merely a clever sales technique.

The prize is a green clubseasons week, however all seasons holiday week owners pay an annual membership which, from memory, is around £400 a year. You don't pay this membership fee to claim your free week...they want you to go because their accommodation standards are bloody good and they know that a fair few people who take the free week will sign up for full membership.

I got one of these letters last year and read up the T&Cs very carefully. In the end I elected to use my free week in their Whitbarrow site in the Lake District. OH and myself went along in Sept last year, the accommodation was fantastic - for the 2 of us it was a self-contained apartment with large TV, balcony with uninterrupted views of the hills, great bathroom/shower and a really nice kitchenette. We had full use of the gym whilst there. We were invited to a presentation which we declined and that wasn't a problem for them at all.

After we returned from our week we simply said we didn't want to take up the membership and that was the end of that.

I would advise the OP to grab the free week, have fun and politely say 'no' to any offers to upgrade or continue membership

  • Ditto here, I've just received exactly the same card in the post, dated 9th October 2009. Bless 'em, keeps my lovely postman in a job for a little bit longer.
