Can anyone do a quick calculation?

Hubby may be about to become unemployed and we may have to claim jsa. This will be a joint claim with one seven year old child. Can anyone tell me what the weekly rate would be please?

ps (thankfully none of us are disabled.)

many many thanks btw I am a student nurse on a nhss bursary, I did not have to decalre this when claiming tax credits but will the benefits office need to know and will our payments be reduced because of it?

    If you have a look at this link, it should explain the conditions of receiving JSA:

    Right at the bottom it says the couple rate for people 18+ is £90.10 per week.

    You will still receive tax credits for your child, should be about £45.58 but this will be dependant on overpayments and other factors.

    Don't forget that if you are renting then you should be able to get Housing Benefit, if you rent or own your own home then you can get help with Council Tax.

    I am not sure if they will take your income from bursary into consideration, why not give them a call in the morning.

    My husband was made redundant we have a 18 month old toddler we get £87.17 a week JSA and full Child Tax Credits.
    Hope this helps.
  • Oh another thing I'm a student they don't take means tested bursarys into account, you may be able to recieve more help now though with college fees.

    Benefits also depend on your savings, if you have over 8k i think, then your benefits may well be reduced.
