Hi,
haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, but was expecting Martin to have put something on here...
saw on BBC breakfast that 2 new utility companies have "popped up" offering big savings on current large supplier rates.
I did a search on energyhelpline.com and found I could achieve an 11% saving...
but no doubt the big suppliers will follow suit shortly.
Just thought I'd flag it up.

First Utility are not new and there has been a thread running on the company.

Their prices have varied a great deal, but are currently very competitive.
It is difficult to know how the comparison websites calculate costs for this company as they have 3 different rates for electricity in a 24 hour period and every customer will have a different consumption profile.
The major reservation for most people is the exit penalty and no certainty that prices will remain competitive for existing customers.
OVO is much newer and again very competitive with prices fixed for 12 months.0 -
I've notices this too. It's the isave online tariff (no smart meter) and if I click through their website I can clearly see the prices for the Manweb region I am in.
I have also checked the t's and c's and can see no mention of an exit fee, just 28 days notice required.0 -
I wonderedwhy I wasn't getting any detail for Isave, but it is not available in Midlands or East Midlands.0

I am tempted as its cheaper than my current deal. But for how long?
The one thing putting me off is that all the comparisons include the discounts, then the fine print points out that you get the discount at the end of 12mths. I prefer my current plan which gives me the discount on every quarterly bill.
I can see exactly what will happen. 6mths into a billing year, they'll jack the prices up and you'll be forced to decide between getting your annual discount or moving to a cheaper supplier! The savings quoted include any discounts associated with this tariff. The discounts will be paid to you annually after 12 consecutive direct debit payments. To qualify, you must take your supply from first:utility and pay by the same payment method for a full 12 month period – this period does not have to be a Jan-Dec calendar year.0
