12v Adaptor for Netbook

I have just got a Medion Netbook, the plug adaptor has the picture for the connection of a circle with a + in it connected to the inner circle and the backwards C to a circle with a - in it IYKWIM.

A year or two ago I bought a Notebook Travel Charger as I am on 12v only quite a lot. Thi has a diamond with a - inside it going to the C and the inner circle going to a diamond with a + inside it.

Are they compatible? Even though printed opposite way round the negative is to the outer and positive to the inner, so I am thinking they may be?

Thanks

Edit- re read and you are not clear enough on the second paragraph

If in the last paragraph is true then you are ok.

Whats wrong with the Medion charger then?
Do you have a battery / meter tester ?

There is nothing wrong with the mains adaptor, but we rally with our caravan and often do not have mains electric, hence the need for a 12v adaptor.

The control unit from the 12 v has a diamond with a - inside it going to the C and the inner circle going to a diamond with a + inside it.

    Does this explain myself better?

  • So long as the polarity is the same then how they've indicated that on the unit is immaterial (ie centre pin is shown as +ve on both which sounds to be the case here).

BUT - not all laptops run on the same voltage. Make sure that the o/p voltage shown on your 12v unit is not more than 0.5v higher or lower than that shown on the mains charger.

Sorry I had found the voltage and changed that it was 19v 3.42a.

  • ..of course the other thing needed to be correct is the size of the plug but I'm guessing you've already checked that too.

The current (3.42amp) just needs to be as much as or more than that marked on the mains adaptor as the laptop will only draw what it requires so long as the voltage is correct.
