employer not paid wages in on time.....getting charges who pays?

I hope this is the right place for this thread, if not I apologise.
So my wages were due into my account today, as always on the 15th. they haven't gone in but I have DD's coming out, it seems from the online banking that Natwest have let these go out, making me over my overdraft. Who is liable for these charges and does anyone know whether work could get my wages transfered in to my account today or will it be tomorrow? (as I have bills to pay over the phone by the end of the day!)
Thanks in advance for any replies.

This happened a few times down south with my old job and I told him and made him pay the charges as we were supposed to be paid by the 5th and a few times we got paid very late like 7/8th!0

The date is the 15th, and the paymeny via Bacs. I'm just so worried as I have bills to pay by the end of the day, and as said above Natwest seen to have paid my DD's and let me go over my overdraft, which will occur a charge no doubt, but I have more DD's tomorrow which they may not honour! I wonder if Bacs paymnts be sent the same day? if so surely they can transfer my wages in today, once the problem is sorted? If your employer pays your wages late, then I'd say it was up to them to pay any charges that you incur as a result. However, I'd also say that they're not necessarily late yet - if your wages are due to be paid on the 15th then as long as they go in some time on the 15th (today) then they're fulfilling their commitment.
Not much help to you now, I know, but strictly speaking, you shouldn't really have direct debits going out on the 15th if you are dependent on your wages going in to pay them - I think if you check Nat Wests T&C they say that the expect them money for any direct debits going out to be present in the account at midnight the day before the DD is due.0 -
it is not a good idea to have bills go out the same day as you expect to get paid, best to leave a few days
If your contract says the 15th and they are late then you should ask for any charges due to the laye payment to be paid.0 -

I wonder if your company has started using FPS instead of BACS.
There have been a few people here who have been caught out recently with this. When you're paid by BACS the money would have gone in over night, but with FPS the money will go into your bank at whatever time they press 'send'.
Have you asked what has happened to your wages?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Thank you everyone for your help and advise, I agree this has made me realise that I need to change the DD's by a week or so. on the plus side, work have said that the money will go into the account today, for sure, so I may have jumped the gun a little, I've just always got up on payday and the money is there, in the account to use. So I guess I'll be liable for charges for going overdrawn as they have honoured my DD's and as p00hsticks says above, the money should be in the night before not on the same day. so hopefully I'll only be £28 worse off from this, but have learnt a lesson - get them DD's changed! If your bank can 'see' the money coming they may not charge you, they reconcile at the end of the day by which time your wages will be there to cover the DD that have gone out.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
