Do CC providers even bother rejecting you in writing?

Applied for 3 cards this year as I wanted to transfer a balance to 0% card.

Firstly applied for a FlyBE card (Sygma Bank) and according to my Equifax report, an identity check was done on the 27/07/09. Nothing else on that report or any other and I've heard absolutely nothing either way.

Also applied for a Santander Zero card earlier in the month and up to now, there is no mention of any searches and I've heard nothing from them.

The only one that did reply after an instant rejection was for the Virgin Money (MBNA) 0% card and that may have been because I already have a card with them.

Have lost my MBNA card and I requested a replacement about 3 weeks ago and was told 5 days. No sign of that or even a letter saying "Get Lost - You're not having a card as you keep paying your bills on time = bad risk"

I seem to be getting totally ignored and don't want to have to be phoning up repeatedly trying to find out what's happening (took about 10 mins of automated rubbish last time to get through to MBNA including having to download online statements for my card number to manually enter). If there's a problem, how hard is it for them to post out a standard response etc?

I got an instant rejection from them (perfect history blah blah blah, first time I got turned down etc) - I also had another MBNA card. The rejection said they would confirm in writing, but I never received anything.

No, that doesn't make sense. Either the account is open, or it's not. I would certainly call them now. It could be they made a mistake in not putting the replacement request through (or even not cancelling the lost one) or it's been lost in the post.

Worth giving them a call. In my experience they've tended to be quite good on the phone. Number is 0121 7024620.

You probably won't either. Absolutely useless. Many people on here have applied and not had searches done on them or any record of their application. If you really want their card then you're better off trying in a branch.

Yup. They rejected me too for the 9 months 0%/no fee card. Still at least they did send a letter.

We've repeatedly warned of Santander's dire customer service on this thread, but it can't be stressed too often.

If you decide to chance your arm again, it's best to apply in branch. Online and postal applications are still subject to long delays, apparently. From feedback here, there's a 4 week backlog of applications for the Santander Zero card

IME, MBNA is a pretty efficient operation. If you have reported a card lost/stolen, a replacement card and PIN should arrive within 4-5 days. I would call card services and, if the new card hasn't turned up by the week-end, report the matter sharpish ;)
People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.
  • Must admit that the one good thing that's come out of this is that other than the "identity check" (whatever that is), no searches have appeared which does help should I wish to apply elsewhere as it won't show excessive attempts in a short period of time.

Will contact MBNA tomorrow and I'll put odds on it they tell me I'm not having a card rather than it having gone missing in the post. If so, they'll be next on my list of cards to close ASAP.
  • I wonder if anyone can help me here. I applied for a Tesco credit card a couple of months ago, purely because they had a long interest free period. Much to my surprise my application was rejected. Then was advised to do a credit check on Experian where I got the highest credit rating they have, I also have no debts, mortgage paid off etc.etc.
Then wrote to Tesco, enclosing report and asking for explanation - and that's when the trouble started. We have had ongoing correspondence ever since and they absolutely refuse to give the reason for the rejection, now even asking for copies of bank statements and of any investments I might have!!! I have refused as their rejection was based on my original application and therefore this information is of no relevance.
I have said all along that I may well have made a mistake in completing the form and would be willing to accept that, all to no avail.
Can anyone advise of my next step as I am determined to follow this through, especially as I am a partner in a successful business set up earlier this year - with no borrowing for any of the parties involved. Would also mention that just for the hell of it, I applied for another two cards since then (neither of which I need) and was granted both!!!!

Why do you need this Tesco card then? I would put it behind you and move on. They are not obligated to give you a credit card. It might be as simple as they have leant the too much money on that week/month/year and they need to turn some applications down.
  • Just been on the phone to MBNA and unsuprisingly, I'm a bad risk and they won't send me a replacement card. Must be connected to paying my bills and all those zeroes on my credit reports.
Probably left it too late to sort out the lower interest rate and I bet I can't cancel their PPI without closing the card either.
Anyway, this one is now next on my list to get shot off once and for all.
