Social Tariff

Options
Hey guys

I was trying to get my mum put on the essentials tariff as her circumstances have changed but BG keep telling me she is not entitled to it when I know she is due to looking at the stipulations on the intranet and basic knowledge if they keep refusing me who offers other competitive social tariffs ?

Does anyone know any of there tier prices for the social tariffs offered by any other energy company in the scottish power region ?.

    Scottish Power offers such a tariff.

    Last I heard BGas had filled the number of places they offered for these and simply gave you crappy rates and some silly free things.
    It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    BG's Essential Tariff offers 17% discount for Gas and 19 % discount for electric. All the criteria for qualifying is on the BG website under Vulnerable customers. It is still open to new applicants. Even if someone does not qualify for the lower tariff they may still get free cavity wall insulation , loft insulation, VDU's and referrals to all our partnership charities.

    Have they advised you why she cannot get on the Essential Tariff? Does she have too much income coming in?

    You must have been told a reason. If she is on DLA and her income including the DLA and all benefits come to less than £15000 she does qualify. The amount of rent/council tax rebate is also included in this amount.

    Hi, I have just gone on to Scottish Powers social tariff after being on their fixed rate. It is Freshstart and the rates are 5% below the standard tariff with a gaurantee that I will always be on their lowest rate, even if they bring a new cheap tariff out , my rate will match it.Thats why I have not switched to EDF, et.al as I am expecting SP to lower their rates and Fresh start should follow it. To qualify you have to be over 60 and receive certain benefits. Its on their website. Check it out;

    Hi, If that includes VAT then it is just a few pounds above Scottis Powers Freshstart, but if VAT is on top, then S/p is 5% lower + the guarantee of always being reduced to match their lowest tariff at any one time. If your happy, that,s all that matters

    S&SE normaly come out cheaper than anyone as its roughly 30% of core bills, last time I looked into it was head and sholders cheaper that any other supplier. Ring them up and get a quote as my figures are probably a few months old.

    Its called Energyplus Care.
  • I'm on BG essentials tariff and was told it's 15% cheaper than standard rates. Why do people give such different information from the same company??

    They won't quote offer or discuss the social tariff with you if you are not their customer as they only offer it to existing customers. My ex is on it and she is getting 20% off the prices before last summers increase. I told a friend who is not with Hydro about it and he phoned to apply. He was told that they could not offer it to him or discuss eligability unless he was a customer.

    As for qualifying my ex told me they base it on your usage against your income. She had to be spending more than 10% of her income in electric/gas and had to send in proof of all her earnings, salary and all benefits she recvs.
