Enhanced Learning Credits

Options
Hello,

Im hoping someone might be able to help me out here. My partner left the army in october 2006 after serving 8 and a half years. My partner is now having to retrain and are trying to find out if the enhanced learning credits are still able to be used and if so how should we go about using them?

Thank You

  • I would contact the British legion for advice, have you looked on the website Civy Street, they have good advice, also grants for extra learning. Learning Credits can be used upto 6 years after leaving.

I know you must not apply or pay for the course until you have put it through the learning credits people, you can't get a refund. My husband who is still serving has just completed a Masters Degree, we only had to pay £500 so worth having.
  • Enhanced Learning Credits are valid for up to 10 yrs after leaving the service. There is a website at

    www dot enhancedlearningcredits dot com

(as a new user I'm not allowed to post links so replace the 'dot' with .)

Go to the Service Leavers section for all the information you need.

  • You need to have registered either within the 12 month window back in approx 2004 or within 12 months of of joining up, the only other time you can register is at the 8 -8 1/2 month point, you then have to serve 4 years for the lower teir (£1000) or 8 for the higher (£2000) if you were serving in 2000 this was back dated to then. The course needs to be a level 3 or above on the nation framework of quals (NFQ) and the provider will have to be registered as a ELC provider. the full list of approvd providers in on the website mentioned above. Also if you are not longer serving you may be liable to tax. hope this helps!
