Currys Customer Service Warning

Cutting a long storey short..

I had a 5 year insurance on a laptop, sent it in to get repaired, they gave it to someone else, when eventually got back very poor repair, sent back again, they said its fine (its not).
So during this i sent several complaint emails and called them, eventually wrote to their head office. Guess what they didnt even reply..

To add salt into the wound i see they been continuing to take my direct debit out even though its now finished..

So just a word of warning - NEVER use their insurance that they try to force you to take.

Personally i will never use them or any company related to them again.

No ive winged i feel better!

You don't pay via direct debit for the 5 year one.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

They don't force you to take it!! I but loads of stuff from Curry's and I am always asked once wethere or not I'd be interested in the insurance, the benefits are explained, I politely say thanks but no thanks and that's the end of it. I'm assuming your a grown adult with your own mind, if you thought the insurance wasn't a good idea you could just have declined...
  • You can't really decide if the insurance is good until you have had to try and used it. My warning would be to note that during the first year of owning a product, the manufacturer's warranty over-rules the insurance, so you won't be getting your repair within 2 days, or any of the other benefits! I have just got a refund of my insurance from Currys based on this little 'omission'- I only took the insurance because it was so important to me, as a carer, to have a fast repair! So far I have been 5 weeks without a working dishwasher (due to have the fifth engineer visit this evening) because it is still in warranty- madness!

Yes, the "insurance" (Whatever Happens) does go over and above the manufacturers warranty (esp with the "Club Premier" service) and if you mention you have it when it's booked in for repair you WILL get the benefits.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

The 2-day call out applies from day one, as does everything else.

  • contact your bank, they will give you the money back under the DD guarantee
  • Thanks esqui, you may well be right but I was assured by several reps via phone that it doesn't, both in customer service and the actual coverplan dept. I certainly haven't had it either. In fact, the engineer called round today to confess he has lost the part he ordered for us and is going to have to order it again!!! So really, could hardly be worse service all round. If you can give me any details about how this can be escalated, would obviously be grateful.

You say you've cancelled the agreement now, but if you're getting nowhere, the store may be able to call the Branch line and help you. Otherwise, it may be an email or letter to Customer Services (address is on the back of the receipt wallet), or even a call.

Shouldn't they have replaced after 21 days anyway? Or are you being told the same thing with regards to that.

  • Have already called and emailed on numerous occasions :-( Yes, was told the same thing about repair. I have now asked for the unit to be replaced, but no doubt that will entail another big fight.

It is a shame, because we have always used Currys for electricals, bought a tv, i touch, computer and a whole bunch of smaller items just in the last year. Can't see using them for any major purchase again.
  • After a long and tortuous phone call, being passed from person to person and assured that the sale of goods act somehow doesn't apply to Currys, I managed to obtain a refund for the dishwasher today.

Although this seems like a good result, it has been so difficult and stressful to obtain and I have been repeatedly lied to by various reps... In future, I will be saving up the extra cash and using my small local store for electrical goods, as I have already experienced their excellent customer service.
