I've lived in a converted house (a first floor flat) for over two years. I have my own front door but the stairs leading to my home are made of concrete.
There has never been any type of flooring down and when I invite people into my home, the stairwell is the first thing they see and it is most unwelcoming.
Does anybody know a cheap but effective way of covering them on a budget? I have a dog so they get quite dirty so a pale colour is a no-no.
I tried painting them with a good quality gloss but the paint cracked and it looks terrible.
I was quoted £125 for plain bog standard corded carpet but I'm wondering if there is an alternative.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!

i think masonry paint would stay on the concrete and look ok. would be much cheaper than carpet! io used some in black on a block of concrete in our youth room at church and it looks smart.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

            For BIG DADDY:
Hope you can help me with your experience on carpets.
Buying carpet for the first time, bedrooms and stairways. No idea what type and how much I should be spending per sq. metre. Want something hardwearing, but don't want to pay over the odds/be ripped off! 100% wool-what are your thoughts please?
 Thanks
 JTIt's great in here! 0 0

            Hi JT
Go for 80% wool 20% nylon, it wears better than just wool. If you wany plain colours go for a twist pile or if you want a patterned go for an axeminster. Twists start from about £9 per sq mtr and axeminster starts from about £23 per sq mtr life span of these carpets should be about 7 to 10 years wear which is a good investment long term if you don't want to change your carpets or colour scheme often. Plus you will need underlay and gripper with these carpets.
You could go for man made fibres for less money but don't last as long as a wool mix. Always get more than one quote do it on the same sq mtr price and compare them.
Hope this has helped if you have anymore questions feel free to ask 8)They call me Mr Pig!1
