Snow Leopard SP1 is out Apple's new OS

Only been out a week or two and now on Apple's new OS has sp1. I thought M$ were bad enough but it normally takes them 18 months to get sp1 out

    Hardly a "Service Pack".

    Here's what it does:
Improves compatibility with some Sierra Wireless 3G modems

Addresses an issue in which some printer compatibility drivers might not appear properly in the Add Printer browser

Addresses an issue that might cause DVD playback to stop unexpectedly

Addresses an issue that might make it difficult to remove an item from the Dock

Resolves an issue in which the Command-Option-T keyboard shortcut would sometimes bring up the special characters menu in applications such as Mail and TextEdit

Addresses instances in which auto account setup in Mail might not work

Resolves issues when sending mail with certain SMTP servers

Addresses an issue in which Motion 4 could become unresponsive

Includes an update to Adobe Flash Player plug-in version 10.0.32.18

Service packs (something OS X doesn't have btw - is it so hard to grasp that OS X isn't Windows?) are generally a bit more extensive; Vista SP1 contained well over 500 fixes.

Your alleged "SP1" above has 9 (I counted them for you).

Well that may be but its a shame so many fixes for a OS which has only been out a week or two, still M$ are not immune to fixes themselves just not that quickly ;)

Incidentally it was theinquirer.net that said it was a SP its still a fix which is basically what a SP is, although some do add extra features later on.

    Quite!

The fix for Vista is coming out next month, and that only took them three years. ;)

According to Wikipedia: "A service pack (in short SP) is a collection of updates, fixes and/or enhancements to a software program delivered in the form of a single installable package."

Well I didn't know exact date I just generalised

As for Vista well I have to admit from its inception it was never that good although sp1 didn't make it better by then the whole OS has lost credibility.

Windows 7 is definitely a improvement and am using it now and have it on 3 computers :) with no issues as of yet since using it for 6 months ;)

As of Vista SP2, I don't think Vista is that bad, and I don't think Windows 7 is such a massive improvement.

Microsoft just wanted to get away from the Vista brand-name, and a "new" OS was the only way of doing that.

I find it a lot quicker even on a fast quad machine. Definately a improvement although it looks very similar I think the os utilises gpu a lot more than previously hence the speed. I found Vista buggy on copying files from DVD etc

Main reason I ditched vista sp1 x64 was very slow bootup on my main rig even though I got a 2.4ghz quad and 4gb of 800mhz ram

It seems to me you are trying to pick flaws in an OS update by pointing out how soon another update has appeared. I use both mac and windows and in the week just gone, there were about 6 updates in windows using windows update (all relating to the OS). The week before, there was about 9.

Rather than moaning about how an OS seems to be constantly updated, I'm glad companies are recognising and fixing more urgent "flaws". There is going to be the argument that those "flaws" should perhaps not be there to begin with, but I do how some empathy with the task these companies have. So if you are going to be so smug as to try and /gloat at a newly released OS which required a few updates so early, please remind yourself of the OS you are currently using (or formally used i.e. Vista) who's update frequency occurs on almost a daily basis.

PS the service packs are a collection of the smaller daily updates you get via windows update, just in one big instalment.

PPS I just realised how much of a waste of a post mine is and wish to have those 30 seconds of my life refunded.
