its not a new thing, the manufacturers will probably have an agreement after X amount of miles they take the car back and sell it on....work permit granted!0

This has been going on for years!
We often stock ex rental stuff. Their trading name never shows on the V5 tho.
For example National Car Rental's have Provincial Services with a Leicester address on the V5.
They technically are one owner (National), its just had several drivers.
They probably get just as much abuse as a fleet car.0 -
I wonder how niave some buyers are.....where do people think all these 6 month old cars registered to "A COMPANY" are coming from????? Surely common sense tells you that companies are not registering vehicles, taking the depreciation hit and then selling on0

Many years ago I remember a customer at a local garage insisted on seeing the registration document to prove it had only had one private owner, the owners name Godfrey Davis.
The customer went away happy in the knowledge he had bought a one private owner from new.

Any car registered to a company and then sold within 6 month to a year will probably of had multiple users.
But i don't believe for a second that all rental vehicles / pool cars are abused the rediculous excesses put a lot of people of that kind of behaviour. In my experience i don't think there's much to choose between a pool/hire car that has had multiple users some of whom may of thrashed or a car that's only been used by one person who might of thrashed it for a whole year.0 -

Have knowingly bought several ex-rental cars over the years, some straight from auction (late 80's / early 90's) and others via a dealer. The worst problem I have encountered on any of those cars was an offside rear door not locking when activating the central locking button. The dealer fixed it in about 30 seconds flat.
However, I have come across dealers trying to 'hide' the fact that a car is ex-rental - assuming the sales staff know of course, the most recent one being a 12 month old Volvo V70 which we almost bought - wish I had now, as they're now retailing the same year / reg car for almost £3k more than we almost bought for in January...
Some of the best ex-rentals I've had have come from the Channel Islands, 3 months old and only a few hundred miles.0 -

One of my clients hires a VW Passat under Europcar's 'six and go' scheme. They get a brand new Passat every 4 to 6 months. It has one driver who looks after it pretty well. I would have thought they would be sound buys (if you want a Passat:rolleyes:).0 -
My last hire car from Enterprise was a less than wonderful Chevrolet Aveo 1.2. The car was 6 months old, had covered 11k and felt pretty worn and baggy. The man without a signature.0
