Phones 4 u faulty phone issue

Hi,

I took out a new contract in P4U in July this year, when they bought out my contract (I know a lot dont like this method but its fine for me every time I do it lol)

I was only interested in one phone- Samsung Jet S8000.

I got the contract and new phoned and really like the phone etc.

Just at the end of August it developed a fault where there a kind of oil stain (or petrol in pavement) type image appeared under the skin of the screen,

I took it back and they exchanged it as I was on 29 or 30 days (cant remember which)

It is now 14th September and the same fault has occured. I know im entitled for another exchange as its under 28 days from last one (Only thing is im fairly certain I didnt get a new reciept but I believe it will show on my p4u account screen?)

Am I entitled to ask for a different handset due to the two failings on this one or do I still have to accept the same one?

Thanks

Venkman

  • can anyone help?
  • Hey

Are you sure you don't have a warranty for your full contract duration?

In that case it shouldn't matter whether your in the time limit or not. If your phone messes up, they have a duty to fix it or replace it.

    Yes, I can :)

Unfortunately you don't have the right to change it for a different model THIS TIME, but if you get it exchanged and it happens again, you then have more chance of getting a different handset, although if P4U do offer you this, they will more than likely decide which handsets you can choose from...

When I took the phone contract out the Jet had only been out a week so was one of the top of the line handsets. I could of chose the N97 or any of the "new" phones at the time. I am more than happy to accept this phone again but feel I should be offered any other phone they offer as they wouldnt be loosing money as I took an expensive one to start with , its not as if I took one of the base models and now insist I get an i-phone for example(I know P4u dont do them but you know what I mean). I want the same or equal value. Am I not entitled to that?

Yes you are entitled to that, I was simply meaning that if they do go down the line of a different handset, they might not make any newer handsets available for you, depending on cost, but you should be able to swap for an equivalent model...

  • When I worked for 3G a few years ago, if a customer brought a handset back 3 times, we HAD TO by LAW give them a new/re-conditioned handset. This applied when I worked for O2 too. However I don't trust these 3rd party companies, even if the cowboys are on the high st. Best advice is to check the terms of your contract with P4U. As you will have a contract with them to go with your payments, and this should tell you what their policy is on faulty handsets.

Failing all this, the handset should have a minimum 12 month warranty from Samsung, but this may depend on if you have filled in relevant paperwork and sent it to samsung..i.e registered your handset.

  • I have asked them to reserve a Jet on friday for me as I dont work fridays but will ask while there if I can swap the handset
  • I doubt you'd get a swap for another handset. They generally don't do that. Especially with a popular handset, unless there's been a massive fault, I remember nokia having a hnadset fault a few years back, we had to exchange for another b/c every customer had a fault.
