    Hi All

Thanks for all you help and advice, just thought I'd post a quick update.

Firstly, Puss is well on the mend. Eating little, but some (corn-fed chicken, hand fed to him, tiny piece by tiny piece - good thing cats aren't devious enough to milk a situation... Are they?!), drinking water normally and cat milk in extremely restricted amounts. He's obviously very sore, and has a very painful looking bruise visible on his shaved bit. He's bright and alert though, and is dividing his time between my lap and his plush bed in front of the fire.

Secondly, re the dogs owners, I did enquire as to whether their insurance would cover it as that'd be cheaper for everyone. It would, but would require all sorts of official-ness and witness statements etc. They'd rather not, go down that route if it's avoidable and have offered half the cost. I'm not really willing to make it so official, certainly unwilling to report the dog, and don't want to fall out with neighbours. Therefore, having waited until I'm pretty certain Puss'll not be taking any turns for the worse and accruing any further vets bills, I'll be happy to take their offer.

Glad puss is on the road to recovery and well done you for accepting the dog owners offer.

Often it really is so much more sensible to accept what has been offered freely then to go the whole horrible legal route and cause a whole load of heartache for all parties

And a cat not knowing how to milk a situation?? You are having a laugh :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I agree with a lot on here, accept half the bill.

you can also report the attack to the dog warden, but i am sure the dog owners seem quite nice, and have probably now checked their garden to make sure this doesn't happen again.

it's not often you hear that dog owners are nice, you always hear how horrible they have been.

the owner of the dog who attacked me, lied and hid from the police long enough for the whole thing to be dropped, ok my arm is now scarred for life, but i am the one who has the last laugh at him, he's now spending the next 5 years at HRH pleasure for beating the living daylights out of his then girlfriend and her friends with a metal dog chain wrapped around his hand.

Accept the money, they were nice enough to offer the £50.00 or half the vet bill. Animals don't understand that they aren't allowed to chase other animals, it's us humans who have made that rule.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

I live on what might be called a commuter estate where there are many cats. Unlike mine, most live in homes where their staff have installed cat flaps, and they're wherever they want to be whenever they want to be.

I don't want to go down the official route, but I do feel it's partly their responsibility, so it seems best all round to accept. I also want to make sure the dog owners do all they can to avoid this happening again to another cat. As another poster said (in the Money Savers Arms, I think, where I also posted the first post), most cats aren't dumb enough to get caught, but there are loads of places they could get cornered.

And yep. I was definitely having a laugh :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

They are nice. And actually, odd as it sounds since it attacked Puss, so is the dog!! It's gorgeous, actually, really bouncy and happy. BUT it goes for small animals and escapes. They definitely need to do something, and it is possible to train a 3 year old not to go for cats - my doberman was in the same boat, but learned not to chase before any casualties.

Oh My God!! Sounds like a perfectly vile piece, that one. Why would anyone be like that? Glad he got what was coming to him, :j here's to hoping he gets a taste of his own medicine inside too!

So can you approach them about making their garden safe? you never know you might make friends out of this... I think your puss will be keeping away from the dogs area now, i assume that cats do.....

yes it's lovely and peaceful here now with him inside, just need his dopey ex to move with her kids, although she has a new boyfriend, and by god she does choose em, all of them beat the living daylights out of her, but she loves em and won't have them charged, stupid mare that she is.

I'd say its possible to train some dogs to not chase cats but not all, my dog was the gentlest thing ever, and would never hurt or chase anything, apart from cats. Didnt matter what we tried, he hated them and that was that!

Am glad your cats on the mend now, and think the most sensible option was to agree to the 50% split.
  • Seems a bit odd to compare a cat that poos in gardens to a dog that attacks cats

50% is probably as good an offer as you will get... although there are those out there who are more decent. My friend's dog was picked up and shaken by a lab that was off-lead this week 'He's never been aggressive before'

The person looking after the lab paid 100% of the fees and was very apologetic.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Possibly because dog on dog attacks are covered by laws and they knew that if the police were called a vet bill would be the least of their worries
