in the south of france in poor reception areas a lot of people who require french tv have to buy a satellite dish so that they can get the french channels. This then points to Astra 1 . for english tv you need a skybox with sky card pointing to Astra 2. my question is :
with a sky box if this was pointing to Astra 1 owuld you get french TV or do you need 2 different boxes and 2 satellite dishes to get both english and french TV and on different tvs? i am also aware of a satellite dish that rotates. would anyone know and could this be used in any way? thanks in advance.

depends where you are & what french channels you want0 -

You need a dish which accepts two LNBs (the box at the end of the arm with the cable connected). One aimed at 28.2E and the other at 19.2E.
This page shows the basic idea (although the prices seem high - shop around):

You could then connect both cables to a non-Sky satellite receiver via a two-way DiseqC automatic switch which will allow you to watch programs from either LNB including all BBC and ITV channels.
Unfortunately, Channel 4 and Channel 5 require a Sky card and digibox so if you want 4 and 5, you would need two satellite receivers - one non-Sky satellite receiver for 19.2 and also a Sky digibox and card for 28.2E. You would run two cables from the dish to the two satellite receivers.
Multi-LNB brackets for dishes are very common so I would certainly shop around and probably try to source the dish and bracket from a local supplier.
This page gives more realistic UK prices:

Unless you want to be able to receive signals from a large number of satellites, I would avoid motorised setups as they are much more expensive, slower to change channel (as the dish has to move) and less reliable as allegedly the motors fail every few years.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
