Faulty boiler - Sale of Goods Act claim?

Our 3 and a half year old boiler developed a fairly major fault recently - the heat exchanger went and we had to pay British Gas £127 to repair it. Given the size of the job that's actually quite a good price, but we still think that a fault like this shouldn't have happened so soon and I was wondering if we might be able to claim for it somehow.
I think we would be covered under the Sale of Goods Act. It was properly installed and used correctly (though it wasn't annually serviced - could that be a problem?), so I think it is reasonable to expect it to last longer than this before going faulty. Would you all agree?
Do we have to claim against the retailer? This was just a small plumbers merchant company and I get the feeling they would laugh in our faces if we start yelling the Sale of Goods Act at them. We would much rather try chasing the manufacturer (Worcester Bosch) for the money - can we do that?

Any warranty or guarantee claims should be made against the reseller, not the manufacturer. Who installed the boiler?0

Agreed. Also, the OP should have given the reseller the opportunity to remedy the problem before getting the work done by BG.
There is a valid argument that the boiler should have been serviced (having said that, mine is the same age and has not been, and my Dad is a gas engineer!
), and this lack of care could have contributed to/ caused the fault. Gone ... or have I?0 -
The installer was just a local plumber. He didn't get the boiler, we picked it up ourselves. I agree we probably should have given Worcester a chance to repair it first - we just rushed in with BG because their price seemed good. I agree we probably should be getting it serviced and don't have a leg to stand on. Never mind, it's working again now so that the main thing. Thanks guys.0
