  • Friends of ours recently got married and their was no food served at the evening do, this was clearly stated in the notes/letter that accompanied the invitation so every body was prepared and had already had a meal. Could you not start the evening do a bit later, I would find it difficult to feed my self (and children - difficult bit) get ready and travel to an evening for 7ish. Possible serve the cake with tea & coffee around 9.30pm as already suggested. Hope always goes well.

I think as long as people are aware beforehand anything goes really - I didn't mean to say every wedding must have a buffet in the evening!
  • Hi Em it is your wedding so it is completely up to you Chick! Personally I would rather give them food than drink, but that is just me. Will the people at the wedding breakfast be getting wine and bubbles with the meal and the toast, as they are going to be nicely fuzzy by the time the reception starts. If I had been there all day I would want something later on in the evening because all that drinking and dancing works up an appetite!!

You do whatever you think is best honey xx

I think Lydia was answering sarah_eltons question on their reply "wedding breakfast (why is it called that?)"

I agree that you should do whatever you think is best for you hon. I'd be a bit surprised if i went to an evening reception and there was no food though. But thats just me and i always get hungry when ive been drinking aswell
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • There are many options to be creative with evening food these days. We are having bacon butties, which will be followed with a chocolate cupcake, our wedding cake will be cupcakes I am baking myself with a friend. I've also been to weddings with just cheeses and biscuits served in the evening or just a dessert table instead of a buffet.
Would a BBQ be possible. I agree with some of the above posts, if I was inviting guests to just the evening I would definately offer them food.
We are only having a very small number just in the evening as most are going to be there all day (and that is only 44) and they will be offered a bacon butty and a cupcake.

  • Why not have somethimg simple for people to pick on later on like cheese and biscuits. Can work out quite cheap if you go out and buy the cheeses and stuff yourself. My friend is having one of those 'cakes of cheese' for her night doo people. Five tiers with a different cheese, biscuits, grapes and ivy to decorate has only cost her £80!

mmmmmmmm i would LOVE to have a BBQ, that would solve so many problems!

you are all right, of course, i hadnt thought of the people that come to the ceremony and the wedding breakfast, they will be starving if we dont have any food! i am going to be making cupcakes too so will make sure there are plenty to go round. i am already having visions of me, my arty friend and my OH sitting round the table furiously icing them :rotfl:

back to the drawing board then on the money saving front lol!

at my friends wedding in summer we had fish fingers, burgers, sausages and chips and loads of big white bread cakes to make butties with - it was the cheapest thing they did and it was gorgeous, just what you need when you've been drinking

how much is a drink? i bet you wouldnt get much if you swopped booze for butties

i would warn people though if you dont have anything. all the weddings ive been to there has been very little buffet left at the end

    just a thought
