2 year guarantee under EU rules?

I bought a digital camera from Curry's online store just over a year ago. Recently it stopped working - when turned on, the lens goes out and then retracts turning the camera back off. It seems to be a fault with the camera rather than wear and tear. Under their terms and Conditions, Curry's claim their guarantee period is 12 months from delivery but I don't believe a camera should only last 12 months or less. I had heard that under EU law, companies have to guarantee goods for 2 years. Is this correct? Any help and advice on this would be great as I keep seeing conflicting advice from a Google search.

completely ignore the eu stuff, its bs

search the forums for SOGA/sale of goods act/ eu law and you will find a wealth of threads (3-4 per day?) and you will have your answers and find out why to ignore the eu stuff.

try doing searches before posting, helps prevent cluttering and more specific rarer threads get pushed back in the sea of currys, pc world and soga we get everyday

Ignore the EU 'law', it isn't relevant. I don't even think it is a law, although someone will no doubt correct me on that.

its a type of eu law, ut does not ave direct effect on constituents of the eu, rather the countries must implement the desired effects of the directive into their own law

in the uk we already had soga, i believe a few minor tweaks were made to please the eu commission but it is essentially the same, so it is soga you use the directive does not apply as it does not have direct effect.

The EU directive was incorporated into SOGA I was told this by Trading Standards so the SOGA is the route to go

EU directive gives you no additional rights in fact it is less, it goes with soga up to a point up to 2 years the SOGA goes further up to 6 years but and its a big but after 6 months you have to proof the goods have an inherent fault, the 12 months warranty isnt law that is just another line of protection

I think I'm gonna cry if I see one more post about this :(
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

    Me too.

We really need a sticky thread about this.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler
