Cancelling services with Virgin Media

This is my first message in a forum. I have been reading a bit over this weekend and its a bundle of information there to help people. My dilema today is, I have been with VirginMedia since 2006 and on joining them I had signed paper contracts with them for the 3in1 package for £30 then. I called today to cancel the 3in1 services I have had with them over these past years by giving them a month's notice. I am told that I am in contract with them for having phoned and requested a call barring on the line. The guy then tells me that as i made the change to the telephone at that time, I also requested the size of my TV to a large size (I had watching TV, so that was news to me - then it became my Broadband) and on these changes, i have been in contract with them since this Feb, 2009 and therefore have 4 months to go on this contract. I have asked for all the transcripts of calls that I have made to them agreeing to these changes as they said, he then directs me to another dept for which I refuse even to go there. He will put a cancellation notice on my account and that I will incur a charge o£57 for earlier cancalletion of contract. I think its day-light robbery and I aint paying it. Any ideas as I have a month to resolve this sillyness from VirginMedia.

Thanks for your note, but i have not signed any contract so where is this all coming from. I would like to have the transcripts to prove that they have made this all up. In that case, there is no need to give a month's notice - just cancel this straight away then.
