OOOOH a Remoska for £4 that really is a bargain - well done you devondoll! I chickened out Sunnyday cos I tried to get the top of my Moska all clean and shiny and got it VERY wet. I was frightened of it shorting or blowing up the house (we still have an old fuse box which needs fusewire and a good torch :( so I did it in my pressure cooker in the end. I think the Moska lid is dry now, and I have nervously switched it on (in daylight) and it's fine, so I'll be using it again now. Do post any good things you make ? I can't find my Moska cookbooks and have forgotten what I used to make in it so it's like starting all over again (tho when I re-read the other Remoska thread I see I used to use it a great deal and made some really nice things

just did stewed plums and dehydrated pineapple topped with chocolate sponge. Looks good. This morning did a hotpot thing without meat and enough left to reheat for tomorrow

I just bought my remoska today so I cannot WAIT to get started - but would definitely be interested in an adapted toad in the hole recipe...

We just use the T in the H recipe that came with the Remoska - the only problem is not enough for the 4 of us :-)
  • Anyone still using their Remoska? I have an old (?2006? 2007?) Standard, with the deep pan and the less-deep pan, and use it for most of my baking - sausage rolls, jam tarts, butterfly cakes, biscuits...

I love it, but I wish I could get a new lid or pans, as it's definitely a bit elderly now - but still going strong! :

Yes, I am using mine - it's a Grand and is a bit bashed and dented, but works well nonetheless. Brilliant for jacket potatoes as I am too mean to put the oven on just for those, and they aren't the same from the microwave!

I part cook my jacket spuds in the m'wave and crisp them off in the remoska. When we go on holiday I always take it with us (family self catering for 7 of us )and its excellent for doing the spuds whilst the rest of the meal is cooking
  • Yep, I'm another cheapskate who semi-pings the baked potatoes and then do them all nice and sizzling-crispy in the Remoska. we both love eating the potato skins too, so I often buy bags of reduced-price little pots, the salad ones, and do those quickly in the Remoska, bit of butter, pinch of mustard powder and black pepper sprinkled over and they are lovely!

Today I used the Remoska for small batches of treacle tarts, jam tarts, coconut macaroons, flapjack and rich butter-biscuits - it's brilliant for doing small quantities of baking just for the two of us.

And then this evening I made a nice big potato-bacon-and-onion rosti in the deep pan - delicious and easy hot supper!

  • After the recommendations upthread, I'm going to try Toad in the Hole this evening - I mentioned it last night to Mr Nice and he looked confused, having not only never had Toad in the Hole but not even knowing what it is!

So the Remoska and I shall put that right - and it will be a cheap meal, too, as I have some cut-price really good chipolatas in the freezer which I bought a while ago :)

And homemade onion gravy too, made by just cooking down tons of sliced onions in a big pan for aaaages :)

I have a grand remoska , but at the moment it is sitting in the cupboard. Perhaps I could get it out again. The trouble is that there are only three of us at home most of the time so the dish seem too large. Is it possible to place a smaller dish inside it?.

Yep, I do this all the time!

I use smaller dishes, and I also steam vegetables on top of other foods, adding them towards the end of cooking time - I tried a few things, and eventually settled on wetting the vegetables, wrapping them in sopping-wet small piece of linen or kitchen paper, then wrapping that in a bit of tinfoil loosely. I tried just wrapping them in foil and the outer bits scorched, so the wet cloth/paper is to prevent that and add more water to steam - kitchen paper does work but often sticks to eg broccoli, but I found using a clean bit of old tea-towel works perfectly! I would just hang it to dry to use next time and wash it weekly; seemed to be fine!

At one point I had a very late finish one day a week, and wasn't home til nearly 9pm and never felt like cooking, and ended up skipping meals or eating junk; I took to loading up the Remoska and getting my parents to switch it on for me (I lived with them then) at about 8.15 - I'd have a round silicon dish with a portion of sticky toffee pudding, extra dates and sauce, covered with a bit of foil to prevent scorching on top; another silicon dish, rectangular, just held three sausages and some sliced onions to cook in the fat, and a small potato sat loose to bake in its jacket; a bit of broccoli or kale wrapped up and put on top, or else some salad (uncooked!), and I had a lovely little two-course hot meal ready for me!
