Not at all. I wouldn't use a car wash on any car that I owned.

Yes. If it's a hire car, lease car or my company car. No on my own vehicles. Why? Because it doesn't matter how much car was companies hark on about how soft their bristles are they will still be far harsher than handwashing.

    Yup! no question.

I normally do mine myself but if I didn't have a hosepipe etc at home anyway I would use a carwash.

When I was a youngster I remember my Auntie buying a new 3 Piece Suite. She wouldn't take the plastic cover off it for Months. Each time we went round we had to sit on the plastic for fear of anyone marking her new sofa.

The sofa has now gone up in smoke after going on the Nov 5 bonfire.

You can't keep things new forever!!

I prefer to wash ours by hand but if I was away and car got dirty I might if it was that bad

I rarely use car washes but I did use on in August I noticed that one program can even do under car now and apply wax
  • Use hosepipe at home, DONT use a sponge, use a mircofibre cloth, and change the water twice if the car is v dirty

I find it annoying that when you pay the extra for the wax wash the windscreen gets waxed as well. There's one near me that charges extra for 'hand preparation'. They squirt some soapy stuff around with a hand lance then wipe it off. Takes about 20 seconds. My brother in law once took a company Vauxhall through one. On the first soapy pass the brush took out the back window, covered him and interior in soap, then came back and wet everything again. He had to sit there while it did 2 rinse passes. As it was a company car he eventually saw the funny side. The car wash operator paid for a new back window and full interior valet.

Why no sponge, out of interest?

I have to use a bucket for the water - no access to a hosepipe

Defintely NO. I don't want to be rubbing the dirt from the previous car (wheels and all) into my new paintwork. You'll get bad swirls and scrathes from the first wash.

Best to hand clean it using the 2 bucket method, and then use some nice paint sealant/wax (not polish!)

Meguiars NXT 2.0 Tech Wax, Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection, Collinite 476s, Turtlewax Platinum Extra Gloss all good products for a new car, with no abbrasives.
