Booked Saturday - but now £350 cheaper!

Can anyone advise where I stand.

I booked a holiday through a teletext travel agent (ATOL registered) on Saturday.

I looked at the prices again last night (flights and hotel) and found that the price had dropped by over £350 in one day!

As you can imagine I'm not best pleased.

Is there anything I can do?

I have e mailed the travel agent, but they haven't responded.

  • You might be able to cancel minus an admin fee, which will definitely be a lot less than £350. If this is the case (and the terms and conditions definitely say you can cancel) then I'd phone them up and explain this to them, and see if you can bargain with them to refund you to save you effort.
  • I sympathise with you but you cant blame them. Deals go up and down. You can cancel if you wish and then re-book. but this may not be as straightfowrard. e.g. you may have to book thru anoda travel agent

But the price could be based on places left and go back up after you cancel...

Why oh why do people check the prices after they have bA ooked and then complain when the price has gone down? :wall:

Book when you are happy with a price then don't check again. Simples!

I'm one of those people who book when I'm happy with a price but I do keep checking - because I like to know when the best deals are likely to come up for future bookings (I have to confess that I'm anal enough to keep a spreadsheet of prices of holidays that I'm considering :o - still it keeps me off the streets :rotfl:).

For example, I booked 2 weeks self catering in Kos with day flights and 20kg luggage for £450 for 2 pax, departing within 2 weeks. Very happy with the price I paid.
A week later the price had gone down to £350 but I didn't bemoan the fact - it's just one of those things, the same as buying a TV a couple of weeks before it goes into the sale.

you paid a price you were happy with at the time.
How would you have felt if you'd left it and the holiday had gone?
If you're asking if there's anything LEGALLY you can do, then the answer is 'No'.
Doctor Scotsman has given you a potential way forward to try to recover some of the £350 more you've paid.
  • One thing I have noticed recently on the Virgin Atlantic website is that there is limited availability for flights on their website over the weekend.....if you look again Monday afternoon, the sames flights are there but are cheaper!!! Very strange, but it happens!
  • Oh dear, i would be a bit peeved but as long as i was happy with what i had paid in the first place then i wouldn't complain.

:j Ooooh, I am liking this idea very much - loads better than my pages of scribbled notes that I can't make head nor tail of a few hours later, never mind days or weeks :rotfl:
  • Thank you everyone for your comments.

Yes, I was / am happy with the price I paid at the time.

I have spoken to the travel company and the saving we would make by cancelling and re-booking would be out weighed by the cancellation fee and the admin charges, so we will stay with what we've got.

The only reason I looked again at the prices was because some friends asked if they could join us and so I got a quote for them (as it was cheaper I re-checked ours).

We have saved a lot of money over the 'book price' and so I will now sit back and wait for my holiday to arrive.

Steady on there - you're in danger of taking my No 1 anal title.

And I wouldn't like you to pick up any bad habits from me.

I think that's very sensible, just relax and look forward to your holiday.
I'm sure there'll be some people who've paid the brochure price.

it isn't always a matter of "booking at a price you're happy with" - sometimes it's just gambling that the price won't go down and hoping you've booked at the right price. I've booked ryanair flights a few weeks in advance with the the thought of "they can only go up" nearer the time and in fact they've gone down. I wasn't happy with the price but didn't want to risk it going up. I feel sorry for anyone in the situation above and it'd eat away at me
