I have no idea what is going on!

Well, due to exchange hopefully this week. We are selling our house - 4 in the chain, we are at the bottom (no-where to live, but hey, that's life!!). We've filled in the bounty of paperwork and it's gone to solicitor (who came with Estate Agents, probably big mistake). He has passed on the details to the purchasers. I sent a big wad of answers, as we have an old house, and they had lots of questions. Some of the questions I didn't understand, so my solicitor said to state "don't understand", or "no idea" etc. I assumed that the solicitor would re-write the answers and let me have a copy before he sent this to the purchaser's solicitor, but of course I haven't seen anything, and he said he just photocopied the stuff. Then a different bunch of questions from the purchasers, which we answered, but we have no idea as to whether they have accepted our last set of answers.
Is this usually what happens? Is the whole event put solely in the hands of a solicitor and we are supposed to trust what they say to the other one, or am I being short changed. I'm not silly enough to exchange without knowing exactly what we are all agreeing to, but having just spoken to my estate agent (just as bad), she says to wait until exchange date is anticipated and then ask for copies of everything prior to this.
All I hear is that they are pushing to exchange and quick completion. I on the other hand refuse to spend money on storage etc until we have exchanged, which means I need a few weeks before completion.
What I don't want to happen is for us to move out and then someone sue us for something we have or haven't said - I don't trust anyone (quite cynical).
What do yous reckon I should do, and is this normal? I could get my big butch OH to have a quiet word
I've moved house about 10 times in my life and it seems to get harder the older I get!
TVM x

I had this dilemma, I wanted 2 weeks between exchange/completion as I was moving out and getting rid of everything and walking away with virtually just the clothes on my back .... I didn't want to empty the house and then have them pull out.... in the end I got 2 days and it was hell (everybody then let me down and it was a frantic dash to the tip with my dad's mad friend with a small trailer literally dragging everything out and down the tip).
I had no idea what was going on, solicitor (online one) wasn't keeping me in the loop and in the end I just wanted to sell, so just said "oh do what you want".
It was absolute hell .. huge house, no help, let down, panic, mayhem ....
The form is a worry, but if you filled out what you knew at the time, then that's all you can do.
The whole system is too much "black hole/don't know what's going on" isn't it.
I probably sat and expected some horrible come back for the next year at least0 -
Thanks PasturesNew. I like your username, perhaps I will end up in a pasture too! Cardboard box no doubt!
We couldn't possibly do two weeks, let alone two days, I'm going to ask for a month, before I exchange. They have messed about asking all sorts of questions, we live in a really old house and they wanted to know if we had building regulations from something that was altered in the 1940s!!! I have been quite aloof with my responses, I have put loads of 'don't know's'! I suppose I'll just pass it to my OH who won't put up with any messing around! I worry more as I get older, I don't remember this happening last time.
I'l just go with the flow and see what happens xForever I will sail towards the horizon with you0
