Highlighted Desktop Icon Text

Another display of my computer ignorance I’m afraid
The other day I was moving a photo to the clipboard on my PC. A window appeared asking me whether I wanted to make the item on the clipboard available to other applications. I (rightly or wrongly) clicked the yes button. Now for some unknown (at least unknown to me) reason all the text under the icons on my desktop is now highlighted. It looks awful, but try as I might, I cannot ‘unhighlight’ it. Any (simple to understand!) ideas on how to get rid of the highlighting?

Try -
Right-click the desktop
under 'arrange icons by'
untick 'lock webitems on desktop'
(The icons aren't really highlighted, the colour of your desktop behind your wallpaper shows through when this is selected)0 -

Done that - no change, unless I need to restart my PC for this to take effect?
Thanks!
